This time we get into the relaxed and content mood of Donovan‘s „Mellow Yellow“ and celebrate the beginning of autumn. youtu.be/bb3WpOJvsug?... #PalacesandGardens #ECK #photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ECK
A promotional announcement graphic with dark blue lettering overlaid on a faded, warm autumn background. The backdrop shows a soft-focus garden setting filled with the glowing golden-yellow light of late afternoon. A few falling amber leaves are visible against the soft silhouettes of park trees. The text is arranged cleanly down the left side, detailing the prompts for the #MellowYellow challenge. The bottom corners read "Everyone is welcome" on the left and "#ECK" on the right.

Time for a matching game with #PompAndPatterns this Thursday. Dive into your archives or take a stroll to match your clothing with your surroundings. Show a color twin or a pattern double in 1 or 2 photos. Let’s get creative! #PalacesandGardens #ECK
An announcement graphic with dark blue lettering overlaid on a faded, cozy garden backdrop. The background photograph features an old, rustic wicker chair that is beautifully weathered and gently falling apart over time. A group of small, lively sparrows are perched comfortably on the woven frame of the chair, using it as a peaceful resting place right next to their garden bird feeder.

The text is arranged cleanly in a legible dark blue font down the left side, detailing the rules for the upcoming fashion and textile matching challenge. The soft textures of the decaying wicker and the organic shapes of the birds create a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly contrasts with the organized text. The bottom corners read "Everyone is welcome" on the left and "#ECK" on the right.

The wooden floor has rugs at intervals along the room, with two yellow sofas either side of the fireplace. People are looking at the bookshelves and the paintings on the walls, or leafing through the books open on small tables.

Morning #BlueSky ☕️ & welcome to a secret garden & a story in the Alt (staring our own Queen Sabine 👸🏼 🥰 @sabineshutterbug.bsky.social ) Have a beautiful day friends 😌 #ECK #PalacesAndGardens #PagesAndPalaces #Photography #PhotographyOfBlueSky #PhotographersOfBlueSky #AltText #BlueSkyStories
After today’s picture description, I’ve written a short story for this capture.

Our photograph shows a beautifully landscaped formal garden on an autumn day. A wide, reddish gravel or paved pathway stretches from the foreground into the distance.

On either side are carefully maintained lawns, rounded ornamental shrubs and numerous mature trees displaying rich autumn colours of gold, copper, russet and deep green.

In the foreground on the left stands an elegant stone statue of a young, robed figure. The figure appears to be reading from an open book, looking down towards the pages. The statue stands on an ornate, weathered pedestal decorated with carved details.

Above the garden is a dramatic sky of turquoise-blue and grey, filled with large, soft clouds. Sunlight falls warmly across the pathway and lawns. Finally our pictures is finished with a white border frame. And now for my story..

I call it…The Statue That Read the Gardens

They said the statue had stood there for generations, always with its book open.

Nobody knew what the words on its pages said. Visitors tried to lean closer, but the writing was too worn by time to read.

One autumn afternoon, a young girl named Sabine wandered into the gardens.

As she passed, she noticed something strange: the statue’s stone eyes seemed to be following the changing leaves.

She stopped.

“What are you reading?” she whispered.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then a golden leaf drifted from the great tree overhead and landed upon the statue’s book.

Sabine looked down.

The pages had changed.

There, written in delicate letters, was a single sentence:

“I am reading the stories written by the garden.”

From that day onward, Sabine returned every autumn.

She never saw the words again but she began to notice things she had once overlooked.

Birdsong among the branches, sunlight moving across the path, and the quiet stories told by every falling leaf.

And the statue remained there, patiently reading.

If Heaven Has a Library... for today's #PalacesAndGardens theme of #PagesAndPalaces Bodleian Libraries and the Divinity School, University of Oxford. #EastCoastKin #ECK #photography #UniversityofOxford #knowledge #architecture #library #expandyourmind (iPhone camera)
Photograph taken looking up at the C15th architecture above the entrance to the Divinity School, part of the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford. Yes, not technically a 'palace' but fancy enough and to me the ultimate 'palace of learning'. There were libraries all around a quadrangle...each library for a different subject and one flowing architecturally into the next.

If heaven has a library (and I'm allowed past the pearly gates) I hope it's like this...glowing, beautiful and with lots of reading opportunities inside.

Image shows a building in a rich, golden stone with gothic features. A wrought iron decorative fan above the door. Above carved stone tablet above that explaining (in Latin) its purpose which is set below a highly decorative gothic pointed arch. This sits within a facade of lots of tall, thin gothic arches with also includes a seven-paned very fancy, large windows high up, which is, you guessed it...gothic in style. Gargoyles I think at roof level. Bright blue sky above.

It was 34 degrees that day so being inside the library was amazingly cool, in so many ways.

A library is is not complete without a tea tray in it. for #PagesAndPalaces #PalacesandGardens
One of my favourite country house libraries is the one at Shugborough Hall. It looks cozy and smart at the same time, with the furniture's striped fabric in warm red hues, and the book shelves painted white. It has 3000 books, though looks much larger due to the clever usage of a large mirror above the fire place. The ornate rococo plasterwork of the ceiling was created by Francesco Vassalli (1701–1771). A tea tray with red-and-white porcelain cups with Saugers and 2 silver pots was placed on a small table near the archway.

Ginger and me weeling and dealing. #AnimalTuesday #cats #catsofbluesky ##photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ECK
Setting: The living room. Me stealthily holding my phone, trying not to blink. Ginger peering over the cat tree like a tiny, colorful gargoyle.

Me: (Whispering) Okay, Ginger Baby…just stay right there. Don't move a single whisker. The soft pink roses behind the window are perfect. The lighting is cinematic. You look gorgeous.

Ginger: (Narrowing amber eyes) I see the glowing rectangle device. You think you are sneaky. I am an apex predator. I see all.

Me: I’m not being sneaky! I’m capturing a memory. Look at you, you’re finally winning the "Model of the Year" award. Just let me take one good photo!

Ginger: A photo? Without my prior written consent? Without a treaty signed in salmon paste? Bold move.

Me: Come on, just look at the lens! You've been hiding under that blanket for three hours. This is my moment.

Ginger: I wasn't hiding. I was plotting. And currently, my plot involves blinking the exact millisecond you press that button.

Me: Don't you dare, Ginger Bean! I have been trying to get this shot all Tuesday. Look at the beautiful contrast! Your dark fur against the dark window, the pink roses... it’s art!

Ginger: It is art. Because I am in it. Fine. I shall grant you three seconds of pure, unadulterated symmetry. Behold my intense, dramatic gaze.

Me: (Clicks the shutter) Ha! Got it!

Ginger: Excellent. That will be five treats, a head scratch, and immediate possession of the warm spot you just vacated. Now, if you'll excuse me, I’ve had enough being a tree monster. (jumps down and disappears into the kitchen.)

A dense blanket of dark, slate-grey clouds stretches across the sky, heavily tinged with deep indigo and moody blues. Breaking horizontally through the center of this storm-like canopy is a striking, vibrant streak of electric blue sky, appearing like a sudden tear in the fabric of the storm. The edges of the upper and lower cloud banks catch a diffuse, silvery light from an unseen sun, making the soft textures glow against the shadow. It creates a powerful atmosphere of tension and quiet beauty, capturing the exact moment right before a storm breaks, or just as it begins to clear.

Palace style, but make it avant-garde! 🌿✨ Think beyond clothing and see nature as fabric—from silk water to lace spiderwebs. Join our weekly challenge. #PalacesandGardens #PalaceRunway #ECK #photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ECK
Next week, we explore the world of fashion and textiles within palaces and gardens. We want to see the interplay of clothing, historical costumes, interior fabrics, or botanical-inspired patterns.

The Twist: Let's treat the entire estate as a high-fashion runway!

Bring your designer's eye to the challenge and find "textiles", "textures", and "accessories" in unexpected places.

Our poster image this week is a perfect example: look closely at the weathered garden ornament, where nature has spun delicate spiderwebs that look exactly like intricate, fine lace draped over a structure.

Let your creative imagination run wild:Capture the fluid, rippling water textures of a palace fountain looking like shimmering runway silk.

See the intricate, lace-like shadow patterns cast by historic wrought-iron gates across a garden path.

View the rhythmic shadows of palace colonnades as a sharply pleated designer skirt.Frame a dense bed of moss over an old stone fountain like a heavy luxury velvet cloak.

Look at delicate ivy on a brick wall or morning frost on a greenhouse pane as intricate embroidery.

Or view the heavy canvas wraps tied around winterized garden statues as avant-garde, haute-couture sculptures.

No palace nearby? Bring your creative vision to your own garden, balcony, or favorite local green space and show us your fashion-forward discoveries!

Ginger's antics, special Susan @sdcushing.bsky.social edition, Part 2.
Loki slaps a heavy black paw against his forehead and sighs so deeply his whiskers rattle.

Sitting upright like a tiny, sleek panther, the pragmatic tomcat stares at the screen, utterly embarrassed for his species.

Here is what is going through Loki’s very logical mind:"An alien invasion? Seriously, Ginger?"Loki shakes his head, his sleek black coat gleaming under the living room lamp. He adjusts his posture, crossing his paws with the dignified air of a cat who actually understands how the world works.

„It is a laser pointer, you absolute dramatic fluffball," Loki thinks, rolling his green eyes. "The humans click a plastic button, the light appears. They move their thumb, the light moves. It’s not a cosmic entity breach. It’s basic optics. Honestly, this is why the dogs think they’re smarter than us."

Loki remembers the one time he bothered to chase the red dot. He had caught it within three seconds, lifted his paw, saw there was nothing tangible to eat or destroy, and immediately lost interest. Why waste precious nap energy on a projection? There were real, down-to-earth matters to attend to—like training the humans to open the wet food cans exactly 15 minutes earlier, or hunting that actual, physical housefly buzzing near the kitchen window.

He looks back at the screen at Ginger’s wide, hyper-focused yellow eyes."Bless her heart," Loki sighs, stretching his long legs. "She’s going to pull a muscle jumping at shadows. Someone needs to get that girl a catnip mouse and a reality check."

Ginger's antics, special Susan @sdcushing.bsky.social edition, Part 1.
Ginger’s wide yellow eyes are locked in a look of intense, hyper-focused curiosity. Her ears are slightly forward, her whiskers are flared out wide, and her mouth is set in a serious, tight little line. She doesn't look startled or scared—she looks like a tiny detective who has just uncovered a massive cosmic mystery. Here is the story behind her expression:The clock had just struck 3:00 AM, the exact hour when the boundary between the human world and the feline spirit realm becomes thinnest. Ginger had been resting peacefully on the back of the sofa when it happened.A single, glowing red dot materialized on the living room rug.It didn't make a sound. It didn't cast a shadow. It just sat there, mocking the laws of physics. For months, Ginger had suspected that her humans were harboring a tiny, elusive alien entity. Every time she got close to pinning it down, it would vanish into thin air, leaving no scent trail behind. But tonight was different. The red dot wasn't darting frantically across the floor. It was perfectly still, glowing brightly right in front of the television cabinet.Ginger slowly lowered her chest, her yellow eyes dilating until they took up nearly her entire face. She stopped breathing. She calculated the trajectory, the wind resistance of the ceiling fan, and the exact spring load needed in her hind legs. This was the moment. The final showdown between apex predator and the glowing invader. She was ready to leap.

The clock had just struck 3:00 AM, the exact hour when the boundary between the human world and the feline spirit realm becomes thinnest. Ginger had been resting peacefully on the back of the sofa when it happened. More in alt. 🐾 #caturday #catsofbluesky #photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ECK
A single, glowing red dot materialized on the living room rug.

It didn't make a sound.

It was perfectly still, glowing brightly right in front of the television cabinet.

Ginger slowly lowered her chest, her yellow eyes dilating until they took up nearly her entire face. She stopped breathing. She calculated the trajectory, the wind resistance of the ceiling fan, and the exact spring load needed in her hind legs.

This was the moment. The final showdown between apex predator and the glowing invader.

She was ready to leap.

Wutchwant? #SmallBirdSaturday #birds #sparrow #naturephotography #photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ECK
Judging by the way it’s looking, the sparrow seems to be asking what’s going on; it clearly feels disturbed.

The photo shows a sparrow with its feathers all fluffed up. You can clearly make out the texture of the feathers. It is perched on a balcony railing, looking straight into the camera. Its head is tilted slightly back or giving the impression that the sparrow is "turning up its nose," as the saying goes.

The background is completely out of focus.

Good luck everyone, have a nice Saturday and a great weekend ahead. #ColorADay #GreenSat #BlueSkyArtShow #summer #photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ECK
In the photo, you can see blooming Ponytail Grass. It consists of a great many delicate green blades and is currently in bloom, making it look like a green cloud.

A bit of catnip? #PurpleFriday #bloomscrolling #herbs #photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ECK
A cluster of pale purple catmint in full bloom against a blurred background. The herb is a delight for Bonnie and Ginger, who regularly sniff or nibble at it.

AlHafayer Park on the Red Sea coast in Aqaba, Jordan. Local farmers use these plots to grow fresh produce mainly radishes, watercress, mint, and onions. These gardens represent a traditional, community-driven form of urban agriculture where local people collaborate to share land, water, and food.
