Photograph taken in the engine room of HMS Caroline in Belfast, a cruiser that saw action in both WWI and WWII. Now a fantastic museum with so much to see. We each got to choose one thing each day to visit, and this was mine!

The image shows the steam-powered turbines in a low-ceiling hull of a battleship. Lots of metal, lots of rivets, lots of curves, beams and shadows. An image sadly too complicated to try to explain, particularly as the shapes merge into each other in the shadows. A monochrome filter has been used to focus on the form of the turbines which could reach 30 knots and produced 40,000 shaft horsepower.

In keeping with its name, it's shaped like a gun holster, and it's a kilometer and a half long, and half a kilometer wide. The sky is almost completely clear and blue.

While hiking above Paradise, I stopped for this view across the Tatoosh Range toward Mount Adams. I used a longer lens because I liked how it compressed the different mountain ridges together. The softer light and haze helped separate each layer as they faded into the distance.

It is just after dusk and the thousands of colored lights are illuminated. They cover the rolling hills with many different colors, giving the effect of patches of glowing wildflowers. The golfball sized lights are on a stem, so if it is breezy, they will sway with the breeze. They are placed close together to maximize the color and effect. Not seen at night are the scattered small solar panels placed throughout the exhibit. There are paths through the light, so visitors can walk through the fields. Sensorio has added other light exhibits as well, but this is my favorite. Located in Paso Robles, California as a permanent display.
