Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Yup. I like a lot of Control but generally not its too-common combat. Except for that scene, where its suddenly fun. 010
Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Many years ago my unemployed friend was talking about folk trying to get money from him and he said "You can't get blood from a stone" and his roommate thought this was the most hilarious phrase ever, we are talking head on elbow body shaking from laughter. I thought he was being sarcastic but nope! 111
Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 02/10/2026He had more positive interactions with his wife and kid in the book, but the most obvious would be that he took control briefly near the end when the Overlook had possessed him and told Danny to run away. 120

Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 01/10/2026My favourite film of all time. It was the first film I watched that really made me realize what you can do with a film, that shots are intentional, that themes can be ambiguous or require thinking about the work. 140

Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I have never heard this song, I did not know there was Discourse about this song until I loaded up bsky. But also to be clear, I have zero cultural cachet. I simply don't listen to the radio. It's super easy. 000
Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 26/09/2026The one who makes the group bond. In the first session of the last campaign I ran, one character just started nicknaming these people he had ended up with. It really helped inter-party dynamics emerge more quickly. 040
Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Love the setting, loved exploring, wish there was not as much combat. Its fine but not exceptional, and certainly not as good as the exploration. 010

Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Same, ran it at cons and it flowed beautifully. Home game I ran struggled a bit in the higher tiers, where descriptions of abilities were sometimes ambiguous. That said, I ended up playing in a superhero game with the rules and it worked great for that. 020

Reposted by Haunted HowseMary Gillis @marygillis.bsky.social · 24/09/2026It's called film "footage" because camera operators initially held the cameras with their feet. That changed after a film shoot in 1931, when an operator got a foot cramp and was forced to hold the camera in his hands. The "footage" he got that day was extraordinary. That man's name? Hans Cameraman. 612267386

Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026there is no antimemetics division. writing is scattershot, characters don't feel particularly fleshed out, but the concept is enough that the book has stuck with me for a few years now sometimes minmaxed books that put all their points into one thing end up feeling more memorable 020

Haunted Howse @ryanhowse.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I enjoyed Darths and Droids more than actual Star Wars. Their Rogue One--a film I have never seen!--was delightful. The players' personalities explaining Weird Star Wars Shit--Jar Jar was the younger sister of a player, the minmaxer took Mute for R2D2 so he could get more gadgets, etc. 110
