Obstructionists have done well to make this about “vulnerable road users” i.e. “other people” but ROR creates a lot of crash risk for motorists

This is an excellent summary of 'no turn on red', but all we really need is to notice that 1% of drivers stop at a red when they are turning right. And I am constantly nearly hit when they do. peoplesjournalism.org#article&read...

If you’re only willing to make improvements to places that have had crashes, you do not believe in vision zero, you believe in vision not another but if it happens again, we can look at that too. The main point is to prevent serious injuries and deaths.

#Nashvillebikeweather 9/29/26: Almost perfect; a bit warm this afternoon. But did four drivers in a row nearly hit me head on while I waited at the line to turn left from Commerce to 8th? I wasn't even moving, in broad daylight and yet they keep coming at me. File this under "was cyclist visible?".

It’s even more insulting that one of our staunchest bike/transit advocates just got hit by a car trying to get to this bus stop and is now hospitalized with a broken leg and yet they’ve made no changes whatsoever

#Nashvillebikeweather 9/22/26: IT IS NOT 80 AT 7 AM. And it is World Carfree Day, which in Nashville, of course, is simply "normal Tuesday, don't do anything different." (The #7 downtown was CROWDED though.) It is now relatively safe, temperature-wise, to ride. Cars, of course, are the problem.

ACTION ALERT 🚨 Right now, the Senate is considering adding language to the transportation reauthorization bill to restrict bike lanes. Tell Congress: funding for bike safety projects MUST continue! Take action: action.bikeleague.org/page/101946/...
Action alert graphic. A man holds a sign next to a bike lane that says "Everyone deserves safe streets!" Below the image is white text on a black background: "Tell congress: Funding for Bike Safety Projects MUST Continue! bikeleague.org/action-center"Action alert graphic. White text on a black background: "Congress Must Save America's Bike Lanes
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy erased the data that shows bike lanes reduce crashes and don’t cause congestion. Then he asked Congress to defund all bike lanes — and even remove bike lanes from busy roads.

Now, Congress may be listening: the Senate is considering adding language to the transportation reauthorization bill that would restrict what kinds of roads could have bike lanes on them at all.

We need everyone in Congress to hear us clearly: bike lanes save lives and bicyclists have a right to ride on the roads and get home safely.

Tell your elected representatives: vote NO on any transportation reauthorization bill that would restrict the ability of federal funding to be used on bike safety projects. bikeleague.org/action-center"

Suddenly closing the one bike lane on KVBB for a sign to tell drivers one of their three lanes ends in 0.2 miles adds 8 times as much delay for a cyclist as banning right turn on red adds for a driver.
A sign blocks a bike lane. The sign says "RIGHT LANE CLOSED 1000 FT"

More people than cars on the Woodland Street bridge at rush hour this morning. The fact that we just repaved and restriped this bridge to replicate the same absurd allocation of right-of-way is ridiculous.
Several people walking, two people bicycling, and no one driving on a wide, overbuilt, 4-lane road

"Anti-car activism" is a moral panic. People who seriously want to completely ban cars are few in number, have no power & even they don't want to ban ambulances. But the hypothetical allows people to justify ignoring real & current problems car dependency creates, including for disabled non-drivers.

It turns out this is the result of hiring a bunch of sociopaths who have been conditioned to dehumanize other people
Ackerley said it took more than 10 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. An emergency responder was “the only one that ran towards that man to attempt to save his life,” she said through tears.

”Regardless of his status or who he is as a person, it’s not up to ICE to decide if he dies in the street or not," she added.

Last 'post about posts' for the moment: The city and our friendly social media warriors spend a ton of time talking about how to keep bike riders and peds safe downtown. The problem is simple: too many cars, with no access restrictions. Limit what streets they are allowed on, problem instantly gone.

Concrete makes bike lanes look and feel like an integral part of the street, like they're supposed to be there. Flex posts make them look like an afterthought. Once again, we will get far more support by doing things right than by doing them halfway. Good infrastructure speaks for itself.

Nashvillebikeweather 5/6/26: You'll want quality raingear. Drivers will sit at a green light on their phone while you wait in the rain. Not ideal, but we do need the rain. Yesterday people had to lift strollers over the curb since there is a big fence blocking the ped bridge. Ridiculous.

This is what I don't understand. Main/Gallatin is our chance to demonstrate proof-of-concept on a street that we fully own. Just build the plan, do it fast, save lives, and build support for the ones we'll have to fight for. If we can't do it here why would anyone believe we can do it anywhere?

Nashville is weird because you can bike 35 miles to a conference and an award ceremony and game night and then home, and some of it is on pleasant greenways! And then those greenways dump you onto McGavock or Central Pikes (how are the bike lanes on Lebanon Pike not concrete protected???)
