I am once again asking/begging cultural, heritage and environmental groups in Edinburgh to stop using Gen AI images of a city that has been photographed from nearly every conceivable angle and for which a vast portfolio rights-free images already exist to use if you don't have a budget to pay

Edinburgh needs a Green-led council to introduce rent controls, build social housing and radically reduce private vehicle use, while investing in public transport and active travel. Whether I'm selected or not, I'm looking forward to campaigning hard to ensure a @scottishgreens.org win in 2027.

As the development on the former Booker site progresses, work on the new bridge crossing also progresses. Currently CEC are approaching suppliers for the design stage of the bridge with the hope to work quickly on this. A stakeholder meeting & site visit are being organised in the next few weeks.

The outcome of the vote did not impact the reopening of Braid Road because nobody (including you) brought an amendment to delete the officer recommendation. Please stop gaslighting and show some humility. Much of the wider scheme has been ripped out on the back of your bad faith approach.

I know which vote you mean because you've been strangely obsessed with it for years. The officer recommendation on Braid Road was not removed in any of the amendments, so the division was not relevant to the reopening. The item is here around the 4 hour mark.

Phase 2 includes a full resurfacing of the roundabout at Stevenson Road, with *no road safety measures* included. We're still 2 months away from this phase, so I'd welcome views on active travel needs at this location. It may be too late, but I am sharing these with the project manager.

As much as I welcome these changes, I'm annoyed that details have come forward so close to implementation. Road safety outside Balgreen Primary School needs far more attention, and this was a missed opportunity to engage with the school community on the changes they need to see.

Phase 1 includes an upgrade of the junction at Stevenson Drive, with the existing 2-stage crossing converted into a single-stage crossing with an "all-green" phase for pedestrians. The pavement in front of Balgreen Primary School and Library will be resurfaced, and the guardrails will be replaced.

Officer response below. I would encourage users of the link to report issues to roseburntounioncanal@edinburgh.gov.uk - response times have improved recently.
The Roseburn to Union Canal link was closed for resurfacing works on the bridge across Dalry Road. This was to address some drainage issues which were causing ponding after rain.

I was advised by the contractor that the works would take 2-3 days, and so the works were officially registered for 5 days to give some contingency. Contingency time is generally included in works registrations to ensure that works can be completed even if unforeseen conditions arise, such as adverse weather.

In this case, everything went to plan. The works were finished by Tuesday, and the route was reopened.

I appreciate that this created some confusion and will consider how situations like these can be better communicated in the future.

The replacement glass panels have been ordered, and we are waiting for the supplier to confirm an installation date.

Lib Dems got no support on either. They really embarrassed themselves on the Turnhouse Road bus gate by pretending it would inhibit the construction of the long-awaited West Craigs active travel bridge. This turned out to be absolute bunkum and they had to withdraw that part of their amendment.

Fortunately, the good people at the Conservative and Unionist Party have brought a motion on Lothianburn Junction to this week's Transport & Environment Committee, so @chasbooth.bsky.social and I will have an opportunity to amend in requests for consideration of cycle safety.
Tory motion to Transport & Environment Committee of 10/09/26:

Lothianburn Junction Traffic Trial – A702/A720

Supporting Information:

1.1 Notes that Transport Scotland (and its operating company BEAR Scotland) has
implemented trial measures at Lothianburn Junction to improve traffic flows on the
A702 and A720 Edinburgh City Bypass.

1.2 Notes that these measures respond to community concerns about increased
traffic congestion on the A702 following the introduction of traffic signals at the
Hillend/Damhead junction.

1.3 Recognises the adverse impact this traffic congestion has had on critical bus
services, including Lothian Buses routes 15 and 4, and the 101 service which
operates as far as Dumfries.

1.4 Further notes that this trial represents the first significant change to traffic
arrangements at Lothianburn Junction since the relevant sections of the
Edinburgh City Bypass were constructed in the 1980s, and that the junction
remains a major and busy interchange on Scotland's strategic road network.

Proposed Action/Decision:

2.1 Thanks Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland for implementing the current trial
measures at Lothianburn Junction.

2.2 Requests that Council officers keep Committee members informed of progress
with the trial, including through regular Business Bulletin updates and any other
means they consider appropriate.

Moved by: Councillor Neil Cuthbert
Seconded by: Councillor Jo Mowat

Trial changes at Lothianburn Junction don't seem to have given a second thought to cycle safety. Cycling south, you either stay in the left lane and get blocked by a line of cones, or move the right lane (as instructed) for maximum exposure to vehicles switching lanes.
Road sign (covering 2/3 of footway) on Bigger Road southbound approach to Lothianburn Junction. Instructs road users to use left lane for A720 eastbound and right lane for A702 and A720 westbound. Image of traffic at Lothianburn Junction. Left lane is blocked by cones after exit to A720 eastbound, so cyclists heading south must stay in right lane.

ca.May 1924 Edinburgh Corporation's 'popular chara-a-banc tours' and tram services from the city's Official Guide. The tours were the origins of the Transport Dept's popular sightseeing tours. The tramways show the recent conversion from cable & the merger with the Leith system. @threadinburgh.scot
Edinburgh Corporation Tramways & Motors : advert : in : The Official Guide to Edinburgh : nd [ca.1924]. Two letterpress pages - tours on left, table of tramway services on right showing service numbers, routes and colours.
An interesting list of the "char-a-banc tours" and tramway services operated by Edinburgh Corporation Tramways and seen in an undated edition of the city's Official Guide. In terms of the 'chara' tours these were, of course, the early iterations of Transport Department's popular and profitable city coach tours, As can be seen various tours left St. Andrew Square daily taking in various parts of the recently expanded city including down to the seaside and river at Cramond.

In terms of the list of tramway services this was towards the end of a period when the city's tramways had undergone massive change. Not only had the neighbouring Leith's system been amalgamated upon annexation of that Burgh in 1920 but their electric car system had also finally seen off Edinburgh's increasingly antiquated cable operated tram services. These, one of the world's largest such systems, were converted in remarkable short order; the first conversion undertaken was 20 June 1922 and by 23 June 1923 the last cable was switched off. In addition through running, as seen here, of electric trams was now possible to Musselburgh and Port Seton.

In terms of dating; the 24 Waverley/St. Andrew St to Comely Bank is here and that, replacing bus service 4 that had covered for withdrawn cable trams, came into service on 18 November 1923. Route 23, that does not appear here, from Goldenacre to Tollcross was introduced on 8 June 1924. In addition the extension of service 1 to Liberton that occurred on 28 April 1924 does appear along with extensions to services 4 (Piershill), 5 (Churchhill) and 12 to Corstorphine that date to the same period are shown. All this roughly dates the advert to May 1924. The table also shows the coloured lights that were shown for each route at night.

Rails to Trails: the thread about how North Edinburgh got its cycle paths
On this day, 40 years ago, a councillor cut the ceremonial ribbon and opened a section of cycle path in north Edinburgh. This was a rather special bit of cycle path however as it hadn't been built by the council. It was built by direct citizen action: over the course of a single week it had been reclaimed from the trackbed of an old railway a group of volunteers. Wind the clock forward four decades and from these humble beginnings has grown a network of almost 20km (12 miles) of such paths in this part of the city. There's a good chance that you've cycled, walked, jogged or otherwise explored them. The credit for this their creation sits almost entirely with the relentless (and often thankless) hard work of a single, slightly anarchic organisation. This thread is the story of how the North Edinburgh Path Network came to be.
