At @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social full council today, Cllr Dan Heap secured a cross-party position on cultural grants to support a funding boost for a wide array of cultural organisations. #edincouncil
A photo of Cllr Dan Heap with a quote: "I am delighted that Greens have let the Council to support a funding boost for a wide array of cultural organisations. Had we not acted, many cultural organisations would have not got the funding they need, putting music, theatre and arts in our city at risk."

We also had contributions from Steve highlighting the cynical attempts to remove the vital role of sustainability champions in Edinburgh's schools, Dan making the case for public diners and community growing, and Chas on investing in safe walking and wheeling routes across the city.
"I condemn the conservatives for proposing to remove funding for teachers working on environmental, international and outdoor education in schools, our Sustainability champions – this is funding that has supported children and young people to communicate, live, with children and young people in other countries that are being impacted by climate change, that has supported projects like planting hundreds of trees in city parks, and above all empowering children and young people to understand and rise to the challenges of climate change
that will be increasingly part of their lives." Cllr Steve Burgess, Education spokesperson"Reducing emissions from the transport sector requires a significant shift to delivering the city mobility plan. The plan itself is great, but it is not being delivered at the pace required. Our amendment sees significant investment in pedestrian crossings, school travel plans, dropped kerbs, cycle parking and a host of other schemes to support
more sustainable travel and cut transport emissions." Cllr Chas Booth, Climate Spokesperson"Funding a public diner trial would send a powerful message that this city believes that everyone, no matter their income, deserves to go out for a healthy, nourishing meal in the company of friends family and neighbours.

And with the far right trying to pull our communities apart, there is no
better way to help them come together." Cllr Dan Heap, communities spokesperson

Even though things seem like they might all be stitched up already, we're presenting our budget asks - Green Cllrs have learned from previous years that things we fight for might fail at first, but often bear fruit in later years! Cllrs Claire & Alys made the case for more spending on equality ♀️🦽✊🏾🏳️‍🌈🫄
"By providing a very modest amount of funding relative to the council’s budget towards organisations supporting new scots, we would be recognising this core work and putting our money where our mouth is when we say that Edinburgh welcomes our new residents.

If other groups choose not to adopt this budget proposal, they will be showing that their warm words towards migrants cannot be translated into tangible support when they are called on." Cllr Claire Miller, Equalities Spokesperson"We start our budgets from the point of view of “how can we best use public money to make the biggest impact on our most vulnerable citizens” – who not only suffer the most from the cost-of-living crisis, but also bear the brunt of cuts to services.

This is why we proposed a 6% council tax increase – costing households in band D an extra £15 a year, yes, but enabling
significant investment in things to improve their everyday lives." Cllr Alys Mumford, Health spokesperson

Voting is about to close, and I would appreciate members' support, alongside high preferences for women, non-binary and other disabled candidates, as well as candidates of colour
A campaign graphic. The text says "From protecting our air quality in Edinburgh, to fighting for fairer disability benefits assessments, and from strengthening rent controls to improving climate monitoring of the Edinburgh festivals, I have a long track record of not just campaigning for policies to make Scotland Greener and fairer, but getting them passed."

Voting is closing today, and I am proud to be one of many candidates for Edinburgh and Lothians East to sign the Party's Palestine Solidarity Group pledge
A graphic with text:

I have signed Scottish Greens Palestine Solidarity Group five pledges for Holyrood candidates.

Part 1/2. Contact palestine.group@scottishgreens.org.uk to commit to these pledges.

Pledge 2: Refer to Israel's campaign of settler colonialism in Palestine as an ethnic cleansing. Refer to the ongoing Israeli campaign in Gaza as a genocide. Speak out in support of South Africa’s ICJ case against Israel.

It's been a very sunny afternoon in Shandon, and an equally sunny response talking to voters who have, or are, voting for #voteQ1 today.

I'm looking forward to tonight's online hustings for the Edinburgh and Lothians East Green candidate selection. Members should have the link in their e-mail, and the event starts at 7.15pm.
A graphic.

The title says "Candidate Hustings, 22 June, 7.15pm"

Underneath, it says "Dan Heap for Edinburgh and Lothians East"

In the middle is a picture of Dan in the Scottish Parliament next to a Greyhound. This was taken for the launch of Mark Ruskell's Greyhound Racing bill.

It's a lovely evening to be out canvassing with our by-election candidate, Q. They will make a brilliant Councillor.
Q and Dan stand next to each other by the Union canal in Fountainbridge. They are holding canvas cards with Q's picture.

I am seeking selection as a Scottish Green candidate in next year's Scottish Parliament election. As a Councillor and staff member, I have a strong track record of developing local and national policies that are making Scotland Greener and fairer.
A campaign graphic.

The text says "From improving disability benefits, to better environmental and climate monitoring of the Edinburgh festivals, and from helping to defend Rent Controls to ending Edinburgh’s subsidy for billionaire entertainers, I have a track record of making Scotland greener and fairer”

Below, it says "Dan Heap #1 for Edinburgh and Lothians East".

A picture of Dan is to the right. He is set in front of wildflowers.

I'm at the @scottishgreens.org Spring Conference today. It was great to talk to @scottishswimming.bsky.social about the need to keep pools open. As a member of Edinburgh's Communities and Education Committees, I will be keeping a close eye on Council plans for pools in our communities and schools
Cllr Dan Heap is holding a sign that says '#save our pools'.
