Conversations about the "problem" of shunning & social consequences for perpetrators of sexual assault are kind of in the same vein of skipping-the-important-part, frankly. Saw someone earlier say it was weird to see Republicans opposing Catholics, and I feel it's maybe a bit less so if you take a long enough view. The fundamentalist cults that make up the core of Republican Fascism generally despise Catholics. That alliance was held together solely by Roe v. Wade.
