A reminder: this is worse than judge-only trials because it means for many offences you will be tried not by a Circuit Judge but 2 or 3 non-lawyer volunteers given legal advice by someone else who may have no experience of practising criminal law in the CPS or a defence firm.
And courts will have the final say over where cases should be heard, preventing criminals accused of relatively minor crimes trying to game the system by electing a jury trial in an attempt to avoid prison.

Reading more about what Manchester City this is far more than a story about football, this is also the playbook for how some companies grew to global dominance in the last 30 years and the difficulties national authorities then have in dealing with them.

The committee offers waivers. Submission fees are common in business school academic arenas, in part as a mechanism for safety. Safety is particularly important for this conference topic. The waiver request is available at CFRA@jbs.cam.ac.uk and is straightforward and accommodating.

Holy fuck. SCOTUS overturned the circuit court ruling, sending Christa Pike to her death, and then the state of Tennessee botched the execution and she’s still alive. There are no fucking words.

After SCOTUS allowed Tennessee execution to go ahead, Tennessee botched the execution
SCOTUS, over the liberals’ dissent, cleared the way for Tennessee to kill Christa Pike. The alarming order from DC was followed by even more disturbing developments in Tennessee.

Legality Illusions? What we know about Man City
Yesterday, I was giving a talk to the International Conference of Legal Regulators on what I grandly called law’s poison: the deployment of hyper-zeal to abuse the law or mislead through its means. In essence, it was a potted summary of Frail Professionalism, and that has at its heart the idea of legality illusions. I define Legality illusions as statements of law and/or fact that create illusions of propriety or justice.

Privilege in whose interest?
If the judge in Carter-Ruck and Amersi v. SRA (a shag marry avoid trio for the ages) had wanted to take the case in a different direction, he might have started off with a quote from the original litigation which is the subject of the complaint. In that case, the judge found: 240. Nevertheless, there are several aspects of the conduct of the Claimant – many of which…

2) and 3) are intimately linked, in that the BBC (the organisation that really matters in the modern environment) treats 'claims by rival parties' as the operating frame for how it covers everything. The failure from Labour and the Conservatives to say 'this stuff is bad' is really, really bad.
