I'm working on adding large-scale structure to my procedural terrain based on Voronoi-esque cells. Down the line, this allows me all kinds of level design control not possible with traditional noise functions. For now I've tested it with largely flat cells at 3 heights. #GameDev #IndieDev #ProcGen

I'm specialized in mathematics, and I work in software. I am very much a STEM person, and I think it's extremely valuable for people to take courses beyond what's required for their specialties. For STEM people, that means taking, e.g. history courses.

Realized I need to do more things I love again - so climbed more rock after work yesterday. Bonus rewards of absolute amazing views of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire. #rockclimbing #Dublin #tradclimbing
A rock face with an interesting crack system half way up. White lichen and dark streaks speckled on gray granite. If one brings the right gear for the crack it's super safe. If one does not have the right gear one will freak out just a bit and place desperate mediocre protection and then be absolutely fine as well since the climbing is not too hard... adventure! Sunset over Dublin - warm orange light over the city scape changes to colder blue colors above. Dublin at nightfall - lighs shimmer in the houses below. The bay is visible and also Dun Laoghaire harbor. A darkening evening sky hangs above the city. Two ropes run through shrubs from below

Out and about touching rock and looking for yellow paint. Have to say, the level designers of this open world game made it more subtle. There are sometimes faint white chalk marks and other abrasion hints but often nothing at all! Game designers - take note! #climbing #ireland
A climber on a yellow rope questing up an easy granite route with lots of structured blocks. White lichen speckling the grey rock - some overcast clouds in the sky.climber abseiling into what looks a bit like a jungle but is just the bottom of a quarry in Dalkey/Co Dublin/Ireland

I need to interview someone who knows a ton about game optimization—esp. if they have AAA experience! I’m making a video about why it’s impractical to wait until the game is finished to start making trailers (especially for AAA). This is one angle I want to explain it from. Reposts appreciated! 🙏

Sometimes one needs to get out and touch rock - went seacliff trad-climbing (with instructor) on the West coast of Ireland. Easy enough routes - more intimidating above the lapping waves and needing to rely on self-placed protection. 10/10 would recommend. #Ireland #tradclimbing #climbing

Quick quesition- If you make art for video games (AAA, indie, hobby, or whatever), how comfortable are you with source control like Perforce, Plastic, or Git? What parts scare or confuse you? Also, if you do other things besides art, but source control is still scary, your feedback also welcome!
