Sensible Defaults do not exist, and neither do Best Practices. New video: youtu.be/deKtxzvf92g Whenever next anyone asks me what 'Sensible Default' to use, or what the 'Best Practices' are, I will link this video. It explains my arguments, includes examples, and hopefully finally puts it to rest.

If you didn't know, maths is going through a bit of a crisis, as AI makes it "easier" to generate long complex hard-to-review proofs. Gamedev is facing similar problems, but for various reasons, it's happening in the dark in many places at once.

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.

oh yes this is the good stuff
"I asked ChatGPT and this is what it said: <...>".

Whoa, let me stop you right here buddy, what you're doing here is extremely, horribly rude.

"I had a helpful chat with ChatGPT about this topic some time ago and can share a log with you if you want."

Yeah, send it my way I'll take a look.

"I vibe-coded this pull request in just 15 minutes. Please review"

Well, why don't you review it first?

"Here's my PR, I did this and that for this and that reason."

Thank you, I'll take a look.

The people who made the video game know about the thing you don't like and they hate it more than you do. They were begging to fix it but they weren't allowed to or the fix was somehow even worse than the thing you don't like. They're all looking at your comments and going "told you so".

This is spectacular on the real problems with games industry budgets and project length. www.productionalchemist.com/p/inever-see...
“This is the part that gets missed when a studio measures its AI deployment. The measurement is almost always taken at the task level, where the tool is doing its job perfectly well. Concept iterations per week went up. Time to first playable audio went down. Every one of those numbers can improve while the total cost of the project rises, **because the numbers describe the cheap part of the system and say nothing about the expensive part.**” (emphasis mine)
