at what point do we accept that issues polling is just ‘how well have the media convinced the public that X’

They both did episodes of Doomwatch and Bergerac. Doesn’t look like any ITC shows though

The idea of Dennis Spooner and Robert Holmes meeting feels inherently weird to me, just because Spooner contributed to a very different era of the show. Irrational I know, especially as the gap between their contributions must only be like 3 years

Misinterpreted “a missing Troughton” as a lost off-spring of Troughton instead of an episode. Which isn’t *that* unlikely given his history

Disney had quite a few projects like this in the early 2010s before they realised they could just double down on MCU and Star Wars. There’s this, John Carter, Prince of Persia

(Though I am more sympathetic to Welsh nationalism than anti-EU sentiments - even if it does annoy me a little that Wales pretends they didn’t vote for Brexit too)

Scottish independence potenitally putting off Welsh independence wouldn’t be dissimilar to continental Eurosceptics seeing Brexit and thinking “yeah best not bother leaving”

Feel like the Piddington thing is one where people go "how dare it get so much press coverage" - and it hasn't? May be wrong but it's not *that* much, you have to dig reasonably far on BBC News. It's just had a lot of people talk about it, especially on Bluesky where this sort of thing is catnip

I’m so done with a political class whose collective parochialism, NIMBYism and fetishisation of the working class to the point they want to funnel all kids/people at large into a narrow set of options instead of expanding the menu of choices for what they want to do and where they want to live.

I do like Ludwig, but I find it a little wanting. Comparing it to Jonathan Creek, another mystery which is more of a howdunnit, the supporting characters were often broad but also showed surprising depth at times (before the show went off the boil). In Ludwig, they can feel ruthlessly disposable

It was easy enough to do while transplanting Starmer into a northerner’s body Burnham will be halfway through a speech soon and suddenly start speaking in Starmer’s nasally voice Starmer didn’t stand down as MP, the husk was merely deactivated

This government reminds me of Joe Biden. Biden didn't want to be the prosecute Trump president, he wanted to pass an infrastructure bill. Burnham doesn't want to be the take on the hard right PM, he wants to do social care reform and devo. But you have to do the task you're set or face disaster.

It's baffling how the show returned after the hiatus, accused of being outdated and on the back foot more than ever, with a story loudly declaring "isn't this just Doctor Who like you remember"

So in one week: 1) Reform get stung for dodgy finances, and the regulators play pass the parcel about enforcement 2) Farage announces plans to largely dismantle independent scrutiny of govt, and barely any press discussion of it 3) Masked thugs blockade a port, with narry a word from senior govt

I wrote today's edition of @theleaduk.bsky.social looking at everything that's happened over the last fortnight in Teesside. Most of my writing over the last couple of years has been straight reporting, but this is a bit of a departure.

Extreme child poverty and rampant deprivation, coupled with police funding for a rural area rather than the metropolitan levels of crime being faced have been brought into focus by the A66 death crash

The blind copium of the Keminaissance was really presaged by the 2022-24 era of “Labour are twenty points ahead, it’s anybody’s guess who could win the next election”

How can the Farage footage matter when the rightful arbiters of truth and justice, 65% of people in the most right wing constituency in the country, have already acquitted him

I’m shocked at how streaming shows simultaneously restate the plot to pad the runtime and help second screeners follow along AND expect you to remember every subplot from a show you watched in a week two or three years ago

I'm predisposed to dislike it, but I'm still shocked at how... second rate the Harry Potter trailer felt? Feels weirdly cheap and the actors are all doing cosplay. Not convinced it won't fall into a gaping chasm between "boarding school mystery for 10 year olds" and "prestige mini-series"

I find it funny that people have said Starmer will have a Ted Heath-style sulk, as Heath spent ~218 times as long on the backbenches as Starmer by my calculations. Gotta respect Heath's commitment to being a hater

The Disney+ UI is terrible, ended our subscription as you couldn’t find anything in the vast catalogue unless you specifically knew something on there and searched for it. No amount of watching would actually train the algorithm either, and it’s awful at separating the kids stuff from the rest

My favourite bit about Department Q is that it keeps the Danish name "Carl Morck" for the lead even though Morck is a really weird sounding surname for an English character (nobody jokingly mentions Mork and Mindy, an obvious fail)
