When I was a teenager, I spent 2 years in a traveling teen producing of Godspell. I love it so much, and one of the things I love most is how the material transforms everyone who performs it (sort of like a liturgy…) I’m so psyched for this documentary.

I’m noticing this persisting theme, where it is considered impolite and partisan to simply describe the facts of what someone has done, if what has been done is so far outside the bounds of what would otherwise be acceptable. It’s a strange sort of self-policing.

It’s always hard to know what to do with the 9/11 anniversary. There’s the grief for those who died, but also the grief and sorrow for the cascade of effects down the years—the war, the violence, the suspicion, the bigotry wrapped in a flag, the trauma responses passing as reasoned choices.

We went through that in 1999-2000. So many repeated bomb threats our local PD went out and bought their own bomb sniffing dog and we all started carrying snacks in our backpacks in case of another lockdown. Yayyyyyyyy
