I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world. This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵
OBSERVED EFFECTS OF UBI

No significant reduction in labor supply (38 studies meta-analysis)

Increased self-employment (301%) and part-time employment (17%)

Slight decrease in alcohol and tobacco use (31 studies meta-analysis)

New mothers extend their maternity leaves

Birth weights improve due to better maternal nutrition

Graduation rates and educational outcomes improve

Hospitalization rates decline (8.5%)

Crime goes down (15%–42%) especially illegal hunting (95%)

Domestic violence decreases (30%–51%)

Trust increases (13% in politicians | 6% in other people)

Home ownership rates increase (17%–26%)

Food security increases as does consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables

Improved cognitive functioning (43%) and personality traits (31%)

Savings go up, debts go down

There are over 4,000 mentions of SPLC informants in the FBI investigative records, and FBI has not yet searched Delta, its records on informants. In other words, FBI relied on them, a lot, and is trying to withhold that information from SPLC. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
3. The government has also represented to the defense that it has, for the first time, searched
for the names of the SPLC informants in the Sentinel database for the same time frame of 2007 to
2023 and that the number of hits for those informants ranges from zero to 4,197. The government
does not know, but agreed to take reasonable steps to attempt to determine, how many of the “hits”
are unique hits and the degree, if any, of overlap between the 19,746 hits and the 4,197 hits.
4. During the second meet and confer on September 9, the government disclosed for the first
time that some of the responsive materials the defense is seeking would not be in the Sentinel
database, but rather would be held in a second FBI database called “Delta.” Defense counsel
understands that, broadly speaking, Delta is the FBI’s internal electronic record-keeping system
for confidential human source information or management. Defense counsel also understands that
this database would include exculpatory information about confidential informants. It would also
include communications between the FBI and any informant or confidential human source, as well
as information confirming that some of the SPLC informants were also FBI informants.
