Very much loved reading The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai. First found out about it because it made Obama’s list of recommended books last year. Then my friend, Oliver, told me loved it. Then my friend, Janna, told me she couldn’t put it down. I bought it on my Kobo.

Well, I can’t say Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor’s new book, End Times Fascism And The Fight for the Living World, was fun to listen to (I did enjoy the section near the end on Mamdani) but I do think it’s an important read. I used a Libro.fm credit.

Roma is a senior and applying to colleges. She follows the news as much as her anxiety allows and texted me today, saying the gang rape at Cornell was really scaring her when it comes to going to college. I offered advice and comfort, and one of the things I told her was never to go to a frat party.

To the people complaining these sex abuse cases have created a world where men now have to think 10 times before they touch a woman. Yes, that's the point. It's called consent. Welcome to human decency.

As usual, it’s noticeably cooler in Austin after Fantastic Fest. I wish the Alamo Drafthouse would push the festival by a week. Supposed to be in the 60s next week!

I’ve been wanting to read Fierce Attachments, a mother/daughter memoir, by Vivian Gornick since I read that the New York Times Book Review declared it the best memoir of the last 50 years in 2019 and said it sparked the modern memoir boom. It was pretty good. Borrowed from the Austin Public Library.

Loved the second to last film of this year’s Fantastic Fest, The Squirrel, Finland’s official entry for this year’s Oscars. I was captivated throughout. About the importance of connecting with nature, animals, and each other.

It’s Roma’s 9 year Type 1 diaversary. If you have a kiddo, familiarize yourself with the warning signs (excessive thirst, suddenly peeing the bed, etc.). We wished we had caught it ourselves. Fortunately, her pediatrician tested for it every year because he has a nephew with Type 1.
