My other favorite from our visit to @longwoodgardens.bsky.social Light: Installations by Bruce Munro. No filter on this, it was just so mesmerizing. #BlueSkyArtShow #Monochrome #Photography
Thin shafts of light arranged like circular wheel spokes, with each wheel-like structure arranged abutting each other, filling the whole image. These were all secured on a dark dome structure about four feet tall on the ground such that you could walk right up to it.

One of my favorites from our visit to @longwoodgardens.bsky.social Light: Installations by Bruce Munro #BlueSkyArtShow #reflections #photography
A night photo of slightly overlapping perspective of three circular groupings of shafts of light fanned up and outward from the water, installed on a pond reflecting the light on the foreground water in front of each. Uplighting illuminating tall deciduous trees in the background with a few faint clouds to the upper right in the starry sky above.

Yoshioka Yayoi (b. #OTD in 1871) was a trailblazing Japanese physician, educator & women’s rights activist best known for founding the first medical school for women in #Japan (1900). During her 53-year tenure as president of the medical school, >7,000 women doctors were trained. #WomenInSTEM
Black-and-white studio portrait of Yoshioka Yayoi (1871–1959), the pioneering physician who founded Tokyo Women’s Medical University. She is positioned centrally in a medium shot, captured from the waist up in a seated, formal pose with her hands resting calmly in her lap. Her expression is composed and resolute, peering through round, wire-rimmed spectacles with a steady gaze that conveys intellectual authority and quiet determination. She is dressed in traditional Japanese attire, wearing a dark, textured kimono over a crisp white juban (under-robe). A large, dark decorative bow or obi detail is visible at her waist, adding a layer of formal elegance to her professional appearance. The lighting is soft but focused on her face, highlighting her features against a blurred, minimalist background of horizontal wooden slats and leafy foliage. The composition is balanced and dignified, evoking the somber yet hopeful mood of early 20th-century Japanese modernization. This image serves as a significant historical record of a woman who defied societal norms to revolutionize medical education for women in Japan.

Still from the 1941 Alexander Korda production: That Hamilton Woman. Depicted in splendid-garish turn of the 18th-19thC attire, are Vivien Leigh as Emma Hamilton and Laurence Olivier as Horatio Nelson. While each were already married, Hamilton and Nelson had a torrid affair: perfect sauce for a sumptuous film. Streaming on HBO and Disney/hulu in the US. It also looks widespread on youtube. If drama of the melo sort is your thing, then Vivling and Larry certainly know how to deliver. And who doesn't love a sailor in his dress uniform?
