Life has a way of relentlessly pounding you like an ocean wave. I’ve needed to take a break from all socials and still not sure how much I want to be back. Come pause on the beach for a winter dawn with me. #ocean

Back when the Kennedy Center actually was, ( 😢 ) they asked Mo Willems to create art based on each of Beethoven’s nine symphonies. The exhibit of his resulting nine abstract works of art was beautiful. First pic is the ninth, commonly known as Ode to Joy. #BlueSkyArtShow #Joy
Mo Willems’ framed visual art interpretation of Beethoven’s ninth symphony, in a black frame on a white wall in the exhibit at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Four sections of art arranged vertically, representing the four movements of the symphony. Beethoven Symphonies Abstracted by Mo Willems exhibit in the Kennedy Center hall. Chunky white pillars with one of the nine pieces of art, arranged along the red carpet with international flags hanging from the ceiling above. Introduction and description pillar of the exhibit in the Kennedy Center hall.

Life is slowly finding a new normal. This is one of my favorites, I was frustrated with my paints one day and put the brush down to just smear the colors with my palette knife. I left the messy ridges among the swipes as a defiance but now it’s one of my favorite aspects. #BlueSkyArtShow #texture
10 inch by 10 inch canvas with horizontal sections of acrylic paint smears across, dark burgundy at the top transitioning to deep red under, about a third of the way down, then into soft pink, then mixing into a neutral tone into a pale green with blue mixed in through the middle of the sea green. Edges are left raw paint.

Fell out of a book I was putting in a box. Harmonic. I am doing exactly what it says. Apologies for not posting so much right now. Going through some stuff. Be back soon with my art. Thank you for understanding.

The fact that this evil gang of thugs dismantling everything had NO problem “facilitating” a private jet without delay to go retrieve the (allegedly) criminal T8s back to the (former) USA should put the entire gang and King Turd in jail for contempt for refusing to go get Abrego Garcia. W. T. F.

One other drawing for the #BlueSkyArtShow #Peaceful theme this week and for #Caturday! This was about practicing a new-to-me drawing method on that cute back foot Zoe always had up in the air while she slept peacefully like this. Not a Creature Was Stirring, 5x7 graphite
Cat with tabby striped markings sleeping on her side on a woven blanket, head in the lower right, front legs stretched out toward you the viewer at the bottom (drawing stops before the paws) and bottom of back foot with toe pads in the lower left of the drawing.

This week’s entry is for the 2 wbu owlets that just hatched this week! (see my March 6 post w/the owl cam link) A few years ago a wbu owlet fell while fledging, climbed onto a stump and rested awhile. Reference photo Jim Carpenter w/permission. Downtime, 5x7 graphite. #BlueSkyArtShow #Peaceful
Graphite drawing: in the center is a fluffy white owlet with eyes closed sleeping on a tree stump. The stump has a large chunk of bark missing below where the owlet is resting. The owlet’s far wing is resting on a sliver of the tree stump left of center that is separated from the rest of the stump. Background blurred foliage.
(The owlet was trying to fledge to a nearby tree branch and fell 30 feet into understory brush. Climbed up onto this stump and rested before resuming its new adventure up into the trees to successfully join the rest of the owl family that year.)

Interesting prompt posts in the show today! Here’s mine, from a lovely Northern California evening years ago. #BlueSkyArtShow #silhouette
Cloudless sunset sky of yellow and oranges on the horizon of the Pacific Ocean with dark blue sky above fading to night and dark silhouette of land rising in the middle with a few bushes and just a few trees at the peak of the hill silhouette. I’ve never been one to just copy the crowd, so I knew my entry in a planner design contest was risky since it wasn’t repetitive floral like the rest. Still bummed it wasn’t chosen as a finalist. Oh well. I still love it. Maybe I’ll print my own. Design info in alt. #MakersmARTch #MkrsmARTch #Connect
My Golden Coil contest entry design is my artistic representation of us and our connectedness even with our different orientations/directions and colors and sizes.
A planner, tilted to the right about 45 degrees, sitting on the corner of a dark blue tufted cushion, with two gold paper clips to the right of it on the cushion. The planner has a gold metal binding, and the design is layered circle motifs all different sizes and colors, red, green, blue, pink, rusty orange on a creamy yellow background. The motif has a hole in it off to one side and three gradations of colors outward from the hole, darker the farther away from the hole. The layered motifs are arranged such that the holes are in different directions and they appear to be connected to at least one other via the hole’s loop.

Recently got to go see the #NCMA Art in Bloom exhibit where artists are assigned a museum work of art to interpret in floral form. These were my favorites.
Pieter Aertsen painting, A Meat Stall with the Holy Family Giving Alms in the background on the wall on the right, floral interpretation on pedestal on left by Tonia Gebhart of The Barefoot Artist with bouquets and arrangements of blush colored roses, ranunculus, anemones, lisiathus, anthuriums, eucalyptus, dishes of herbs, on a cutting board with post representing meat stall. Museum painting on the wall on the right in the background of The Wind Stood Still by Irene Rice Pereira, blocks of blues with white and black vertical lines. The floral interpretation on a pedestal on the left by Adama Jay-Harrison of Lavish Leaf, of different blue shades of hydrangea, chrysanthemums, and delphiniums.Museum painting on the wall on the left in the background The Cliff, Etretat, Sunset, by Claude Monet—a dark silhouette of a cliff with an arch feature with the sea in the foreground and the setting sun on the right in the dusk sky. On the right on a pedestal the floral interpretation by Elizabeth Zimmerman of Elizabeth Zimmerman Florals, of a dark vertical structure backdrop with an arch feature and green, blue and blush colored flora in the front with a clump of orange flowers on the right (representative of the sunset) and white, blush, and blue flora above the arch (as sky) all done with roses, delphiniums, rananculus, peonies, anthuriums, Queen Anne’s lace, astilbes, and clematis.

After an evening summer rain storm I had to pull over and try to capture the heavenly sight. #BlueSkyArtShow #Sunlight
Evening sunset after a storm with puffy clouds still on the horizon blocking the direct sun but the broken clouds are letting rays of sun through just enough to light up all the moisture still in the air so it looks like bright flashlight beams coming out from behind the clouds on the tree covered horizon. Colors range from bright orange and yellow emanating from where the sun is behind the clouds beyond the black trees’ silhouette on the horizon to a steel blue near the top of the image beyond the remaining broken gray clouds.

Finished my painting in time for today’s prompt. It took longer than I thought but I’m happy with it. “With Love, Despite the Pain”, 40x30 acrylic on canvas #MakersmARTch #MkrsmARTch #paint #acrylicpainting #fineart
Up close painting of a Jude the Obscure rose past peak bloom, with the sunlight casting shadows on the petals and yellows to deep blood oranges inside the center. Painted from my own reference photo. Titled such because throughout painting it, whenever the music playlist track with that name played, I had to pause my brush and listen to the beautiful song. And, the rose is (was) the US national flower and despite all the pain we are in right now, there is still love for the America I know and believe in.

It’s such a strange day when you sign a painting and officially call it finished after spending so many days on it. I ended up painting the whole thing with my poor 3/8 angular shader brush but Dixon Ticonderoga kindly sent me a new one that won’t chip I hope. Time to clean the box! #artiststudio

Ironically today is the anniversary of my first solo in an airplane, and this was the airport flight school. I remember bouncing out that door to go fly. I was shocked to see it like this many years later when I flew in as a helicopter pilot to pick up a client. See ALT. #BlueSkyArtShow #Abandoned
Abandoned two-story flat-roof building and aircraft hangar on Sikorsky Memorial airport (BDR) in Connecticut. This building was originally the airport’s passenger terminal back in the early days. Igor Sikorsky first flew his helicopter at this airport, Howard Hughes kept aircraft here, Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh flew in here. Before I was even eighteen, I took flight lessons and first soloed an airplane on a cold but sunny February 22nd from the flight school that this building housed in later years. (And ironically ended up in a helicopter pilot career.) Flight school lounge was the two picture windows with broken blinds to the right of the door entrance. Broken bay window on the lower left was flight school admin office. The downstairs was originally the waiting area when it was a passenger terminal. Upstairs was a big open space at the top of the stairs with flight school instructor desks abutting each other and the school manager’s office was the two individual windows on the upper left. Open-air right upper corner of the abandoned structure used to have a big corner picture window, part of the communal instructor space upstairs, where you could observe airport activity. After a few steps down from the entrance there was a gate to the ramp next the concrete pylon that used to have a flag pole and flag flying. Tall grass and weeds used to be mowed grass and flowering plants. A few days after taking this photo the building and hangar were razed to make a parking lot.

Today I honor artist Yolanda Cooper. She attended the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia, PA with my artist aunt in the early 1980s. We found this among my aunt’s old items a few years ago. I love the composition and framed it. I tried to locate her now and had no luck. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM
Limited Edition print by illustrator Yolanda Cooper dated 1983 bottom right corner. Pencil drawing composition of African-Americans various ages in the middle of the print viewed in portrait orientation, overlapping each other slightly and sometimes along strategic pencil lines, starting with the bust drawing of a young man top left of the group to a basketball player from the torso up shooting a hoop, a modern dance woman, a baby, a flute player, a praying child, a baseball player, a ballet dancer, playing dancing children. Stripes of yellow and orange vertically layered over the drawing the length of the print.

One for #Stunday It was my first time at this Dallas airshow and I didn’t know what was coming so I just readied my little camera and pressed the button a few times as the airplanes flew by for their awesome demo. We were stunned to find this perfectly timed shot on my camera after the show.
Cloudy day at Wings Over Dallas airshow at Dallas Executive Airport, one vee formation of four vintage airplanes in the sky in the upper left, flying to the left, and a second similar formation of four trailing behind them, on the right side halfway up the image. A third up from the bottom along the entire ground left to right is a solid line of controlled explosions red hot fire bursting up behind static airshow aircraft, simulating a bomb drop.
