When you write a book you actually write several books. There's the one you know you wrote. Then there's the one your readers bring their experiences to. This is a big part of the magic. As soon as it goes out into the world, your book multiplies & becomes many versions of itself, all equally valid.

Discover #SmallPress #books: A Buyer’s Guide to the Afterlife by Erica Wright, @blacklawrence.bsky.social & Green by Zachari Logan, @radiantpress.bsky.social. See alt-text for book details. #DSPBposts 💙📚 #BookSky #booktok #bookstagram
1. A Buyer’s Guide to the Afterlife by Erica Wright, Black Lawrence Press: Public pools shuttered for storms. Game shows for endangered species. The teeth of a fine snail. A Buyer’s Guide to the Afterlife began for poet Erica Wright as a response to archival images from the American Museum of Natural History. Imagine discovering so many new species in the 16th century, then losing so many in the 21st. The poems in Wright’s new collection consider the beauty and fragility of ecosystems, some turning inward, to the animalness of the human body. https://blacklawrencepress.com/books/a-buyers-guide-to-the-afterlife/
and 2. Green by Zachari Logan, Radiant Press: An exciting new collection of ekphrastic poems accompanied by a compilation of green sketches via the lens of a queer poet and visual artist. Zachari Logan carried a sketchbook as he travelled the world and responded to iconic artwork as well as art that once existed but is now lost, destroyed, or far away. Whimsical art and thoughtful poems that ponder the nature of existence. https://radiantpress.ca/shop/p/green

Book covers for 1. Most Grievous Fault by Meg Todd, Nightwood Editions: After fourteen-year-old Becky, who is suspected of having fetal alcohol syndrome, takes off her clothes for a group of boys at school, single parent Crystal is pressured into sending her to a traditional Catholic school. Suddenly, the apartment echoes with bible verses and Hail Marys. When Crystal meets Tim, a man of strict religious morals, he interprets her frigidity as chastity, and Crystal sees no option but to deny that Becky is her daughter. She sends Becky to live with her alcoholic grandmother, the same abusive, neglectful woman Crystal blames for her own troubles. Despite an acute ache for the well-being of her daughter, Crystal believes that, finally, happiness is within reach. https://nightwoodeditions.com/products/9780889714984 and 2. The Suspension Bridge by Anna Dowdall, Radiant Press: A literary whodunit set in an unreliable 1962, set in a Canadian river city dreaming of fame as it begins building the world’s biggest bridge. The newly-arrived Sister Harriet navigates a chaotic first year at upscale Saint Reginald’s Academy, where the mysterious disappearance of boarding students complicates her ongoing identity crisis. The sinister bridge is meant to usher in a new era for Bothonville (pronounced Buttonville), but the inner lives of several characters, including Harriet’s, fall victim to its supernatural influence. https://radiantpress.ca/shop/p/suspensionbridge

This is a reminder that when you read and review a book, it gives the author a warm feeling in their chest. And with indie authors, doing so can give them the strength to write another 20K words! I don't know about you, but that sounds like a great reason to read a book and leave a review.
