We shouldn't discount the fact that at least part of the data center backlash (and by extension the broader techlash) is because people feel like the tech industry has not given them anything cool, inspiring, beautiful, or useful in a long time

I really appreciate your willingness to ask challenging questions! Not your fault that grappling with gray areas is not exactly a strength of this particular site.

it really is astonishing how much of this sneering obsession with macho posturing is just warmed-over trumpism, down to the assemblage of an insular fantasy world where twitter bon mots pass for strategic wins in a forever war against the tide of a culture that’s largely moved on

the "are transplants and bandwagoners allowed to enjoy the knicks" thing is so utterly stupid because what's happening in the city is so far beyond basketball. it's millions of people celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of our city, in unity. this is for anyone who genuinely loves new york city.

Traffic experts largely support pedestrian-focused infrastructure as a way to reduce congestion and road fatality rates. If you're pro-expert, you gotta stick with it it even when it doesn't fit your tastes.

I didn’t expect to LOVE Paris, but I did expect it to be very pretty and pleasantly walkable. And honestly it’s been neither! (The metro is way better than my expectations tho, so)

Time for a take so hot I had to log back onto social media during a vacation for it: Paris feels much less pedestrian-friendly than several US cities, and I’m not just talking about New York

Are these incidents happening way more often than they used to, or are they just getting more coverage and this was always pretty normal? I feel like I hear so many airport problems like this happening these days.

Nah see this is an example of that though. We're not in a plane that's about to crash and violently kill us all. We're in a flawed and backsliding democracy with immense economic inequalities, but that is decidedly not "we are all going to be dead in 15 minutes and might as well do whatever"
