1) Alito revealing this now is an attempt to rally Republicans in Trump states where Dems lead for Senate. 2) He’s the most partisan R on the court—highly likely he steps down in the lame duck if Dems take the Senate. 3) Doing number 2) makes court expansion even more likely if Dems win in 2028

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.

Just putting this out there. If Democrats win the midterms, we need a full-court press to reverse the damage Russell Vought and RFK Jr. have caused. No half-measures will do. Put on your big boy pants and get to work. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Trump Is Destroying Public Health. Democrats Need to Fight Back.
If they win in the midterms, the party must move quickly and aggressively to undo the harm Trump and his cronies have caused.

This is eugenics
Emily Hilliard, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed on Wednesday that the department had not yet made a decision about whether to provide the shots through that program.
Vaccines for Children provides free shots to children who are uninsured, underinsured or eligible for Medicaid, as well as to American Indian and Alaska Native children.
Pediatric doses are available for children who have insurance, or whose parents can afford to pay for vaccines out of pocket.

Once again, as @nberlat.bsky.social has argued, Democrats should impeach. Assuming that Republicans will collectively defend RFK Jr./Hegseth in particular is preemptive surrender, especially if Republicans are truly hammered in the midterms.

So let me get this straight. Democrats all have to publicly denounce Hasan Piker, even if they don’t really know who he is, have never met him, & never listened to his show, but it’s totally fine for JD Vance to be best friends with Tucker Carlson despite all the shit he’s said?

the argument against it is either that he didn't intend it (because he claimed he wanted to restore efficiency, not kill Black people) or that withholding aid is not an active genocide...which I think it is and I think the UN definition says it is.

The NYT lost the Pulitzer for their transphobic podcast series with Azeen Ghorayshi to Pablo Torre and his reporting on the Clippers. They're salty about it so of course they're not going to properly credit him.
Screenshot of an X (Twitter) post by journalist Julie K. Brown (@jkbjournalist) criticizing coverage by The New York Times and The Athletic.
The post text reads:
"It is shameful that @nytimes @TheAthletic buried the fact that the biggest punishment in NBA history was the result of an investigation by journalist @PabloTorre. And to call it the result of a 'podcast episode' is a further slap in the face. He won a Pulitzer for this story and they call it an 'episode' instead of, at the outset -- crediting him with exposing this scandal. Really really lame."
Below the text, the timestamp shows "8:18 AM · Sep 3, 2026 · 32.7K Views".

One reason vote-by-mail remains under attack by Republicans is because of who it helps turn out.
Two New York Times charts on Colorado's all-mail voting, from research by Adam Bonica, Jacob Grumbach, Charlotte Hill, and Hakeem Jefferson.

Top chart, "Which Coloradans benefited most from all-mail voting," shows the difference between actual and projected turnout in Colorado's 2018 election. By race: African-American voters gained about 11 percentage points, Asian about 9, Latino about 8, white about 7.5. By education: less than a high school diploma about 10 points, high school diploma, some college, and bachelor's degree about 9 each, graduate degree about 7. By household wealth: $0 to $5k gained about 11 points, with gains shrinking as wealth rises to about 6 points for households over $500k.

Bottom chart, "Mailing every Coloradan a ballot increased voting across all age groups," plots actual 2018 turnout against projected turnout without all-mail voting, by age from under 30 to 90. Actual turnout is higher at every age. The gap is widest for the youngest voters, roughly 14 points near age 30, and narrows to about 5 points for voters in their 70s and 80s. Generations labeled Millennials, Gen X, Boomers, Silent Generation.
