Well... that's Northern Harrier ruined for the most part. I had been on the lookout for these for some time, believing this to be inevitable. All northies will now have to be scrutinized to the utmost & several past birds will be under suspicion. #irishrarebirds #birds #birding #BirdID #raptors

A killdeer. Note the lack of deer in the area. 👀 #birds #nature #wildlife 🐡
A photo of a white and tan plover with black bands across its neck, standing on some grass and looking to the left. Indeed, there are no deer in sight, but I doubt it's because this little bird killed them. They're just called killdeer because of the distinctive call.

The last 4 days I spent 8 hours at Lower Moors #Scilly trying to photo the key features of Wilson's Snipe without it once spreading its tail or wings! So relieved that someone else managed it. A very striking monochromatic bird that convinced straight away. ID notes in alt #ukbirding #birds
Wilson's Snipe, Lower Moors, Scilly - 06/10. Note strong and dense barring on flanks with no buff ground colour. The grey centred covert and tertial feathers with whitish tipped coverts were very distinctive.Wilson's Snipe, Lower Moors, Scilly - 04/10. Scapulars and crown feathers very black and uniform with very few paler edges. Narrow crown stripe and whitish braces contrasting very strongly with background, rather like Jack Snipe.Wilson's Snipe, Lower Moors, Scilly - 03/10. we arrived in the ISBG hide 15 minutes after the bird was found. This was taken from Hilda Quick hide. On the underparts the buff colouration is limited to the neck and up onto the headLower Moors, Scilly - 04/10. The bird that some thought was the Wilson's but was actually Common Snipe. This photos shows some key differences - particularly covert, tertial and scapular ground colour and pattern, flanks, and head pattern

Radar image of Tuesday's mass crane migration. A 100 km long line of migrating cranes was clearly visible on weather radar. It is estimated that around 10,000 (?) cranes were involved in that formation. The highest count observed was 26,000 migrating cranes on that day in Kangasala (near Tampere).
