See that red ring? That’s our very distant view of the Northumberland coast, across which have just flown 3 Cranes, giving a 10 second view at something like 4-5 mile range. House mega! With thanks to @gary-woodburn.bsky.social for the tip-off 🍾🙂🏡✅ #NEbirding

Just driving into our village this afternoon when I got seriously distracted by 3 Cranes flying overhead ! Pulled over as quickly as I could and got some really nice views. Sadly, I didn't have my camera with me. #NEbirding

It's great when birding throws nice surprises your way, today was certainly one of those days. Uninspiring westerlies and then... Subalpine Warbler ! No dropped feathers but a poo sample recovered from the bag so🤞. Then in the evening... Cuckoo ! #NEbirding #BirdRinging

Unexpected bird of the day - JAY in off the sea ! I nearly missed it too, it was flying behind me, managed to grab a pic of its arse as it flew off inland. Only my third ever patch Jay, regular a few miles inland but rarer than Pallas's Warbler here ! #NEbirding #Lowcarbonbirding

A swing in the wind direction today (SE) and it's started to feel a bit more 'autumny' with Meadow Pipits, Reed Buntings and various finches calling overhead. Unexpected bird of the day was Great White Egret (x5 !), heading north. Some easterlies forecast this coming week.🤞 #NEbirding #Hope

Caspian Gull at Newton Pool briefly last night whilst conducting Operation Spotted Crake. The local gull roosts are at the Long Nanny (can't be arsed to walk up there !) and offshore on the Emblestones (distant/difficult to view). Caspian Gull remains a patch rarity. #NEbirding #Lowcarbonbirding

It's been an amazing year for Hummingbird Hawkmoths in our tiny garden. We don't get them every year and it's always a treat to see one. This year we've seen seven ! Today this hummer was feeding on our lavender for a couple of minutes, just enough time to grab the camera. #NEbirding
