I printed the drawn side of the syllabus and folded it and left copies in various places at my school (a design school in Paris), as if they had been lost there.

As folks gear up for the new semester, a reminder if anyone needs it, my Ai statement is available for people to make use of in their own materials. It’s downloadable and printable from my site here spinweaveandcut.com/fall-2025-sy...
a snippet of a mini-comic, at top - straight line stretches from point A to B. Immediately below, same dot at A, then becomes a curving, meandering line that winds through the page and ends at a point with rays and a question mark emanating from it. Text reads: "Nothing can do this for you - for that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create - this is learning.

About the ego boost when you get your AI tool to admit they made a mistake in a previous answer: is it by design, built in?

After over 3 years of layoffs, I’ve felt this year was the tipping point where it seems most people in tech are now burned out on the industry. AI is the missing ingredient which has now made working in tech simultaneously exciting and an excruciating ordeal. It looks like the feeling is widespread

Domain-specific solutions require you to understand the problem, which requires domain expertise and/or user research. But that requires decision-makers to admit ignorance. Bolting an LLM onto every product doesn't require understanding the problem AND makes investors happy you're "innovating."

Every designer and programmer you’ve ever met has had to turn down some fucking asshole’s “killer app” idea where they asked us to work for free, for the exposure, and we said no instantly because the idea was self evidently bad. That’s why there’s a demand for AI. To realize terrible ideas.

The most important UX skill in live meetings is not facilitation. It's elicitation. The ability to actively listen, allow people to participate in the way that's comfortable for them, and strategically ask questions that guide toward better understanding. That sometimes means ignoring the agenda.
