I’m not sure I buy the larger argument, but a) LLM-agent coordination is impressive. Seeing it spinning hundreds of agents to index millions of pages of transcriptions was great. 2) dot seems to be really useful. It is organizing my transcriptions; also caught mistakes like double-booked meetings.

Interesting description of using an LLM agent to do one of the most boring tasks ever: populating Canvas. I did it this semester, but in a simpler way - I wrote the syllabi and prepared the folders with the readings, rubrics, primary sources, then an agent upload and organize everything.

@resobscura.bsky.social's posts are always interesting and nuanced, but the title seems a bit glib - as he acknowledges, History is much less conducive to big breakthroughs or widely-acknowledged problems with easily acceptable answers, so why would an LLM "lab" throw money at it?

OpenAI seems to subsidize users at a vastly higher rate than Anthropic and to be in a more precarious position. I’m no LLM skeptic, but I really do not understand how it’s going to become profitable unless it really gobbles up the whole economy. That does not sound sustainable.

This is a very good - and disheartening- essay. I disdained exams and in-class writing for my first 12 years of teaching, but now I’m forced to resort to them, particularly in GenEd classes. I still assign take-home research essays in advanced classes for History majors/minors, though.
