By Waymo's own figures, roughly 44% of its miles carry no passenger. Charge robotaxis a fee for empty miles, highest in busy zones, and spend it on transit and safer streets. Empty cars should pay for the space they use. www.smartgrowthamerica.org/knowledge-hu...

Huge YIMBY win at the CNN Talarico town hall tonight: asked about lowering housing costs, Talarico touts his work on single-stair reform! "Our outdated buildings didn't allow for single-stair housing, which is smaller apartments, smaller condos. It’s a great entry point for homeownership."

A new example of the unique brainworms found in the San Francisco left: DSA-SF has apparently refused to take a position on Proposition G, which would destroy Sunset Dunes park and reopen the Great Highway to cars. Why? It doesn't achieve "working-class justice."

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.
X post from AI industry insider Alvin Sng :

My wife: Can you read our baby a book?
Me: I can just play an audiobook from my phone.
My wife: But then it won't be in your voice.
Me: I can train a voice model.

This sort of stuff makes me want to scream. The cost bloat is in *capital projects* not in operations! Capital projects are bloated because of a complex web of balkanized permitting processes, the byzantine and inconsistent nature of federal grant funding, and outsourcing talent to consultants.

Shades of the Bay Area Council’s campaign against the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge trail which also involved 1000s of form emails from “community members”. How many of these were faked too? The Bay Conservation & Development Commission didn’t ask & violated their charter to approve the closure.

As an alumna, I’m 100% behind renaming it the Men in Power Are Dangerous Student Center.
Screenshot from a Berkeleyside article. The visible text reads:

Any student, faculty or staff member, or alum can submit a proposal to rename a building, and must explain why they feel the current namesake’s legacy is at odds with university values.

Kane said he wasn’t aware of any pending applications to rename the student center. But Reddit commenters had already started a thread Wednesday to suggest possible replacements, including the Dolores Huerta Student Center and, archly, the Men in Power are Dangerous Student Center.
