Notwithstanding the good-old-days-ness of it all, not everyone is actually capable of nice neat cursive handwriting. Those people, like me, get judged for a lack of fine motor skills, which is somehow equated with their intelligence or ability. It's window dressing, not core competency.

Artifacts like (including cursive) are certainly a nod to conservative ideology. I have spent time working in classrooms too, and IMO it would be more useful to teach typing than cursive. However, I'm sure what you say of the report as whole is true and I bow to your experience.

For those who are interested in these things: look what happened to the NZ Labour party in the 2023 general election. They moved their policies to the right in the hope of picking up more votes from the centre and went from over 50% and in government, to barely more than 20% and out in one term!
