English football just finds itself in a completely ludicrous, damaging situation now. And it has been a very long time coming

Look at how smug their players and manager are while listening to their fans proudly singing of being cheats. I feel zero sympathy for any of them and the club and players absolutely should have their titles stripped

So the ‘negotiation’ involves blowing smoke up Putin’s arse, asking him what he wants then attacking Ukraine for refusing to concede it. Never forget the huge swathe of UK media & political figures who celebrated Trump’s ascent while claiming to care about Ukraine. Absolute heels, the lot of them.

The vast majority of this Madring track is custom built. They had carte blanche to design a track specifically for F1, to move the Spanish GP from Barcelona which is often criticised for being difficult to pass on. And they’ve deliberately designed a track you can’t pass on. What’s the logic?

Russell must be bemoaning his luck. Waited for that Mercedes seat and when it finally happened the car was a dog. The car is now the class of their field again and he finds himself alongside a generational talent. Make no mistake, Russell is elite but Kimi’s potential is akin to Lewis/Max/Fernando.

2 - Spain’s Ferran Torres was just the second substitute to score the winning goal in a FIFA World Cup final, after Germany’s Mario Götze in 2014, which also came against Argentina. Repeat.
Torres celebrates his winner v Argentina.

Thank fuck for that. Football was the victor there, just about. Argentina classless in defeat. Just as they are in victory. No surprises there. Throughly beaten. Only team in history to fail to get a single shot away (much less one on target) in a World Cup final.

As an Arsenal fan, I don’t wanna hear any more about Arteta and Haram-ball when I’ve just had to ensure witnessing this Argentina team become the first side in history to contest 90mins of a World Cup final without taking a single shot. Appalling stuff.

2 - There are just two occasions of a team scoring first in the semi-final but not reaching the final of the FIFA World Cup in the 21st century – both of them are England (vs Croatia in 2018 and Argentina in 2026). Familiar.
England manager Thomas Tuchel looks dejected as his side lose to Argentina.

I just can’t believe a coach as astute in game as Tuchel could so spectacularly mess up. Clearly he did. How could you think that the right plan down to 10 men in the Azteca or in Miami heat would work when it meant giving every attacking third touch to the best forward ever?

Tuchel has to take the blame for this. We scored in a game that was largely 50:50 and we started camping. Inviting pressure. Inviting them to keep knowing on the door. Truly catastrophic game management there.

I was in Rio when Ancelotti made the announcement for the squad and I couldn’t really get my head around selecting Neymar. Back home in London now, watching this game, it’s even more unclear what Neymar brings to this team.

FIFA continue to simply decide which players are or aren't actually banned so it fits with how they want the tournament to look. There's essentially no limit to their corruption, they might as well just openly fix games.

Overturning the Balogun suspension is absolutely insane work. Not that Infantino has made any attempt to hide his corruption or ties with Trump, but FIFA can’t just pick and choose who the rules apply to/for. I thought the red card was harsh but rules are rules. What a joke.

I would honestly be amazed if there was actually any evidence to suggest that stutter penalties benefit the player taking the penalty.

So this is it: Infantino is doing his friend – who he gave a made-up peace prize to so he could brown-nose his way to more influence – a favour. This World Cup was already tainted before now, this takes it to a different level. Infantino's ghoulish, obsequious corruption is pathetic. He has to go.

The Royal Belgian Football Federation has published a - very strongly worded and argumented - statement after Fifa's decision to suspend Falorin Balogun's automatic ban for one year, making him eligible for the USMNT's R16 match v. Belgium. Merci à @samindrakunti.bsky.social!
RBFA STATEMENT
The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time).
FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction.
However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA World Cup.
Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5:
"If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed."
The automatic nature of such a suspension was also explicitly reaffirmed in FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No. 16, which was distributed to all participating member associations on 12 May 2026.
The same rule is reiterated at every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Coordination Meeting prior to each match and is included in all FIFA World Cup 2026 workshop presentations.
In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options.

What a time to put in our worst 45 mins of the season. Awful error from Kepa for the 1st, far too passive defensively for the 2nd, but City had been well on top after the break and the pressure they put us under paid off. Very, very disappointing after a fairly solid 1st half. We deserved nothing

Sadly that’s nothing short of what we deserved after that second half performance. It’s the least important of the four trophies we’re in contention for, but it was also the first opportunity to shut the naysayers up. And we fluffed our lines. #Arsenal

I know some disagree but someone like Stephen Fry changing his mind and doing a complete 180 after supporting She Who Must Not Be Named, is a good thing and is evidence that attitudes are changing.

"Our trans siblings deserve our support and encouragement, endorsement and vindication now more than ever as the rising tide of transphobia threatens to engulf not just trans people but everybody who associates with them."

I’m not an expert but dropping your goalie, conceding three, subbing your regular goalie back on and conceding a fourth, all within the first 22 minutes is the act of man about to be sacked.
