We’ve had #F1 GPs in countries not in the event name before - eg, San Marino in Italy & Luxembourg in Germany - but Bahrain in Malaysia feels sillier because, unlike the others, Sepang has hosted only Malaysian GPs in the past. So I’m calling today’s F1 GP #NotTheMalaysianGP. Max Verstappen won it.

In 2022, when Seb Vettel was racing for Aston Martin’s #F1 team & I was its PR chief, I arranged for him to appear on the BBC’s #QuestionTime (pic). Suella Braverman was a fellow panellist. I spoke to her then & I thought her remarkably stupid. On last night’s show I thought her appallingly racist.

#OnThisDay in ’77 pole man James Hunt (McLaren M26) won the #USGP at Watkins Glen from Mario Andretti (Lotus 78), but the early star of a wet race was Hans-Joachim Stuck (pic), who led in spectacular fashion in this Brabham BT45B until he spun off on lap 15.

#HappyBirthday Michael Bleekemolen, 77. He entered 5 #F1 GPs (’77-78) for RAM & ATS, DNQ’d for 4, but won in #F3 & raced in #PorscheSupercup until the age of 60, & he still races today. Pic & #AnorakFact: at Zandvoort in ’78 he became the last F1 driver to wear a Griffin helmet.

Nanni Galli, born #OnThisDay in ’40, drove 17 #F1 GPs but was better in sports cars & touring cars (career highlight: 2nd, #TargaFlorio, ’68, sharing an Alfa Tipo 33/2 with Ignazio Giunti). He died in 2019, at 79, & his funeral was held in Gothic-Romanesque Prato Cathedral (pic).
