Great thread on a very suspicious individual. If you like YouTube (like me) you may have seen him make terrible decisions with HMO renovations and his pivot towards RW Christianity and free speech

Some outcomes are bigger than politics.
Graphic with a blue background and the headline “Cleaner air. Healthier lungs.” At the top is the Mayor of London logo. A photograph shows two children running along the Thames with Tower Bridge in the background.

Text below reads: “A landmark study by Queen Mary University of London found that, following the introduction of the ULEZ, lung growth in children in Central London accelerated, helping them catch up with children outside the capital.”

At the bottom, the source reads: “Source: thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(26)00163-5/fulltext”

What I like about Burnham is he’s come out the gates with relatively small fry bits that correct niggles; homelessness, removing VAT on energy, cutting business rates on pubs, capping bus fares. the optics of these are all positive.

In November 2023, police discovered the decayed corpse of Tracey Turnell in Walthamstow Market. She had no phone, job, passport, friends or lovers. There wasn’t a single photo of her. It was as if, in her far too public death, she entered the public record for the first time. Who was she?

Best not to lie. Labour: - created the minimum wage - is raising the minimum wage - is equalising wage rates What we didn’t do was cheerlead for Tory austerity and the coalition government’s attempts to role back workers rights from the Lib Dem conference floor

are we in a period where being approximately right is just as good as being right? where the blurring of the lines between truth and mostly true is fine/accepted. Where telling a lie isn’t a huge problem, as it sounds like it could be true and so it might as well be?

Whether you want to admit it or not, Starmer successfully managed to protect our economy from the worst damage of Trump's tariffs, more than most other countries, and did it in a way that is not permanent and can be cancelled now that Trump is losing his main threat for retaliation.

The weird thing I find with the conservatives is they have all the political room to be negative about X/twitter. opposite position to Reform and no international consequences like Labour. most people will agree with them and they’d have one over Labour... seriously strange

Entertaining as this spat is, it contains not-a-flicker of recognition as to WHY this might be happening. For 16 months, a tax-exile-oligarch-owned, mostly right-wing press, has abused the privilege of these exclusive private sessions, to misrepresent the gov't on every issue. This is the FO stage.

If you're filing a self-assessment tax return in the UK today and also dealing with Barclays meltdown: File your return online as normal. You don't need the bank to do that. Then pay your outstanding tax when the system is back up; major penalties don't kick in until 30 days' late payment.
