I don't think we have a right to laugh at modern triple-A games being overly hand-hold-y with glowing "path to objective" markers when the current discourse over the upcoming Total War: Shogun 2 remaster is 90% people literally not reading the official information being posted by the devs.

Listening to history podcasts at work has taught me that if something is invented in the West between the 18th and 20th century, there’s a good chance it’s named after a guy who sounds totally completely fake. Like “boring white person first name” + “insanely unique last name”

One of my favorite things to do when some transphobic dickweed does the “you will never be a woman!” schtick on me (a nonbinary person; folks tend to assume I’m a girl online) is to respond with “thanks! that’s actually very gender-affirming!” and watching the moron’s brain break in real time.

I'm a lil bit late to the XIV character inspo meme (meme? trend? fun thing? idk!)... but hey, better late than never, right? Here's my three goobers! (All three use they/them)

A character inspiration sheet for Penelope Fields. They are a feminine Elezen with deer-like features (such as deer ears and antlers), wearing armor in the color of the Twin Adders. They are smiling at the viewer.

The Bard icon is their primary Job, with Dragoon, Monk, Viper, and Warrior as secondary Jobs.

Their inspirations, in order from left to right, top to bottom:
Sen, from Princess Mononoke
Merrill, from Dragon Age 2
Taar, from Dungeon Siege 2
Liru La'neral, from Neverwinter Nights
Yuki, from Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
Saria, from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Kira, from The Dark Crystal
Arwen, from Lord of the Rings

A character inspiration sheet for Olivia du Renard. They are a feminine Highlander-Elezen mix, wearing heavy leather armor and a metal visor over their forehead. They have a scar over their right eye. They are sitting on a bench giving a gentle smile to the viewer.

The Paladin icon is their primary Job, with Machinist, Summoner, and Scholar as their secondary Jobs.

Their inspirations, in order from left to right, top to bottom:
Eowyn, from The Lord of the Rings
Sharwyn, from Neverwinter Nights
Serious Handler, from Monster Hunter: World
Poppy, from League of Legends
Evie Frye, from Assassin's Creed: Syndicate
Fio Germie, from Metal Slug
Riza Hawkeye, from Full Metal Alchemist
Tomoe Ame, from Usagi Yojimbo

A character inspiration sheet for Flefleur Fleurette. They are a feminine Lalafell with a stockier, more dwarf-like frame, wearing a comfortable set of traveler's clothes. They are sitting on a bench holding a wine bottle, looking suspiciously off to the side.

The Red Mage icon is their primary Job, with Black Mage, White Mage, Dancer, and Dark Knight as secondary Jobs.

Their inspirations, in order from left to right, top to bottom:
Rick O'Connell, from The Mummy
Rebecca, from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Morrigan, from Dragon Age
Gobbet, from Shadowrun: Hong Kong
Jack, from Mass Effect
Erza Scarlet, from Fairy Tail
Faye Valentine, from Cowboy Bebop
Revy, from Black Lagoon

Bozja being part of the XIV mogtome event is a blessing and a curse. I love Bozja and do it just for fun (I don’t really care about relic weapons) and so having more people is awesome. But there’s also an influx of folks who only care about the event and don’t follow the “etiquette” of Bozja.

What Macklemore actually said:

“I've been trying to figure out a way to say this all day. One of the reasons why I wanted to come on this tour was because I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine.

"I said, Free Palestine.

“I want those words to be loud and clear, so the people from Gaza, all the way to the occupied West Bank, know that we have not forgotten them.

And this next song was inspired by the bravery of Columbia University students who led an encampment movement that mobilized the entire world; open up hearts, myself included, so thank you to those students that risked their diplomas, that risked their tuition, that risked their scholarships, that stood up and said, no. CUAD students, Students for Justice in Palestine, and Jewish Voices for Peace. Thank you, guys.

“To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.

“So I say Free Palestine, I say Free Lebanon, I say Free Cuba, I say Free Congo, Free Sudan, I say Free all people in America living in fear of this terrorist organization, ICE. None of us will be free until we are all free."

100%. For those unfamiliar, Van Halen had a line in their rider that essentially said “no brown M&Ms.” It was a way to see if the promoter had actually read the contract. They had a shitload of gear to tour with, so if they’re skipping one thing, it’s guaranteed they’re skipping something essential.

Exceptionally tired of folks repeatedly saying the most bigoted, hateful, and harmful nonsense and then hiding behind their identity the moment they're called out for it. Worse when their friends/followers/fans do it for them every time as well, under the guise of progressiveness.

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"

Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.

Struggling a bit for Olivia (I need to take more pics of them, blugh...) but I think Penelope and Fleur can easily be summed up with these two!

Penelope (they/them) is an Elezen with deer-like features, such as deer ears, antlers, fawn spotting on their freckled face, and a black tip of the nose and upper lip. They're wearing armor in the colors of the Adders, with a yellow flower in their brown hair. They are indoors, leaning over a table with parchments on it, but looking at the viewer with a bright smile.

Fleur (they/them) is a Lalafell, but with a stockier, more dwarf-like or hobbit-like frame and purple-black hair. They are clad in full plate and chain armor with heavy mitt gauntlets, all dark-colored, and gripping a greatsword that is easily taller than they are. They are outdoors in snowy ruins, charging towards the viewer while letting out a battle cry.
