What a great photo just added on the NASA Johnson Flickr page www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...
Artemis II Return
NASA's Orion spacecraft carrying Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialist Christina Koch from NASA, along with Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen from the CSA (Canadian Space Agency), splashes down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California, at 5:07 p.m. PDT, (8:07 p.m. EDT) on Friday, April 10, 2026. The Artemis II test flight launched on Wednesday, April 1, from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to begin its 10-day journey around the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to build on our foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars. NASA’s Landing and Recovery team and the U.S. military are coordinating efforts to extract the Artemis II crew from the Orion spacecraft. Credit: NASA/Josh Valcarcel

One of the Artemis astronauts stood up immediately after splashdown and started collecting his carryon bags even though he was seated in the back row of the capsule.

2 nights from now, if everything has gone at least close to plan, we should be done with the most scrutinized activity of this mission - the proximity operations demonstration or prox ops demo. Don’t call it the POD, to me that’s the Payload Operations Director.

Just a quick painting of Máni. A trans-Neptunian object. Recent occultation observations hint that Máni might have a massive impact crater and a very tall mountain that I interpreted as a central peak in this impact crater. #SciArt #spaceart #astronomy #solarsystem

person a: shares meme that asks "how did the ancient Egyptians build the pyramids without Marlboro cigarettes" at 9:45pm. I am already asleep. When I wake up at 7am I respond with "they used Camels duh" perhaps my most clever play on words of the animal and cigarette brand

The "mean" in "Greenwich Mean Time" actually means "mean" (like, average). I did not know this! To calculate GMT they took the position of the sun throughout the year and averaged it out to find the average solar noon in Greenwich and based the time on that!

I really think that Mastodon suffers from the belief that everyone desires the same sort of customizability that Linux offers and it was designed to appeal to that kind of nerd. However, there just aren't enough of that kind of nerd and it makes the experience confusing for the rest of us.

The reef squid's mantle says "Get Squid Facts text SQUID to 1-833-sci-text"a funky strawberry squid with a scooped-out background made in ink then colored in procreateA squid altered its chromatophores to look like a skeleton and a krill has a witch’s hat on and is riding a broom. Am sure many folks know about Uluṟu - that awesome, monolithic-geological structure located near the central parts of our vast, dry continent. Well, it rains there sometimes. Uluṟu is about the height of the Eiffel Tower … so these waterfalls are skyscraper height! amp.abc.net.au/article/1043...
Looking at a section of Uluṟu from relatively nearby. In the foreground are yellow bushes and a few trees. In the distance is the geological feature. Rain has caused waterfalls to run down its many gaps.
