Watching conservatives go from "If you don't want to go to jail, don't break the law" to "The laws don't apply to us or our god king" in the span of nine years has been a wild ride.

Opinion | Yes, it’s okay to compare Trump to Hitler. Don’t let me stop you.
My very minor status as an authority on Hitler comparisons stems from having coined “Godwin’s Law” more than three decades ago.

I think I can say with a clean conscience I’m not a shameless biden shill but to me the main reason you vote for him is the opportunity to vote for somebody better in 2028 will not exist if he loses

Also remember, kids: Fascism is NOT consistent AT ALL. The only goal is for the select to amass as much power as possible and they will break any rule (yes, even their own) to get there. Stop looking for rationality within fascism. It doesn't exist.

When people say that the USA is a racist country many people (esp. white folks) take offense, but not me; I nod and say: yes, clearly. Because even the freeways we drive on in 2023 have racist impact, every single day, even when well-intentioned folks drive on them. www.npr.org/sections/hea...

There's an old joke about an engineer waiting his turn at the guillotine who, after a series of condemned men before him have been pardoned and set free because the blade keeps jamming on the way down, says "Hold on! I've spotted the problem."

So it's Guillotines today? The guillotines start 1 minute 17 seconds in, along with the music of Francis Poulenc as sung by Jessye Norman inter alia: youtu.be/QbRpYJsqhpE?...

“Possible first amendment activity” is such an unsettlingly dystopian phrase

The LAPD is aware of possible first amendment activity in the Los Angeles area over the next few days. In coordination with the US Secret Service, additional uniformed personnel and other resources will be deployed to ensure the highest level of public safety.

Bringing the Santa tweet into its new loving home
Kid: Santa, what's the story of your reindeer names?

Santa: Why I name them after memories, like Prancer frolicking through the snow!

Kid: What about Donner?

*a dark countenance settles on Santa's face*

Santa: the year was 1847, snowfall had trapped us in the Sierra Nevada-

If nothing else, the Burning Man situation has uncovered a rich vein of accounts specializing in the kind of snarky schadenfreude that is my guilty pleasure. My Blue Sky feed is finally worth reading.

It's easy to laugh now but the situation at Burning Man is going to deliver so much generative disruption down the line. They're going to invent cannibalism and create an app for it called Eatr. Multiple companies that market sharpened sticks will get eight-figure venture investment.

When I go backpacking, its not the sprained ankle or broken arm that gets you, it’s the flu or dysentery.

It's like the 1970s/1980s high school writing assignment about choosing which people get to come into your nuclear fallout shelter when "The Day After" arrives, and what *you* bring to the table.

The GOP is showing us every day the contempt they have for democracy. They can't win fair and square, so they resort to dirty tricks like this. The Democrats can't afford to "play nice" under these conditions.
