We know that mobility in cities is about space. More specifically, more trips in less space. We’ve seen lots of great images reinforcing that point. This one might be my favourite, from #Santiago, because it ALSO shows the inequality of having buses run in mixed traffic. Dedicated bus-only lanes.

Noteworthy is a cluster of people in the middle where the full bus is sitting stuck in traffic among all those cars with just one person each in them.

Great report and polling from @cyclinguk.bsky.social re: pluralistic ignorance - where someone supports a policy while believing their neighbours wouldn’t agree. Half support new cycle routes but believe only a third agree. Likewise for reducing speed limits. School streets greater (70% v 49%).

I snapped this photo on Earlham Grove in Forest Gate the other day. Before Newham Council introduced the Atherton LTN, this street was a heavily used rat run. Today, it’s safe enough for parents to cycle home with their children. Trading a driver's shortcut for safe, everyday school runs.

One flaw with this idea is that airlines are only profitable due to their highly prejudicial tax treatment: aviation fuel is untaxed, and flights would be wildly more expensive if it were taxed like other liquid hydrocarbon fuels. There are many plausible futures in which airlines end up broke
