Moving read about Duncan Robinson and his relationship with his brother, Eli. Go check in on your people. Give them a hug if you can. And pause for moment if you get irritated or angry with someone. You don’t know what they’re carrying or going through. www.nytimes.com/athletic/761...
In the backyard, I asked Duncan about all those years in the public eye, when the world wrote his story while he lived a reality few could imagine. That dissonance played out right down to the end. No one knew, but two days before Eli died, Duncan skipped a season-ending media availability as his brother, in a deteriorating mental state, was calling every 10 minutes. Exhausted, Duncan didn’t have the bandwidth for a pack of microphones. Leaving his locker empty, Robinson was portrayed as dodging questions about his uncertain future with the Heat.

“Maybe we can all be a little less certain about knowing what someone is going through,” Duncan says. “It’s important to be in tune with the notion that you just don’t know. Obviously, my brother’s situation was extreme, but there’s also the reality here that … ”

Duncan looked up and put his phone down.

“Everybody has their own Eli.”

1.	This order was procedural and does not block mail-in voting.

Given rising interest in the rapidly strengthening El Niño event in the tropical Pacific Ocean, I've created a one-page fact sheet succinctly describing what El Niño is, this year's (remarkable) forecast, and potential impacts from California to global scales. [Thread]
JPEG version of a 1-page Factsheet: El Niño 2026-2027: A Potentially Historic Global Climate Event
By Daniel Swain, PhD | August 2026

There is a banner image depicting projected warming of the Pacific Ocean by early winter.

The content begins:
"What is El Niño?
El Niño is the warm phase of a natural cycle, known as El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO), that occurs roughly every 2-7 years in the tropical Pacific Ocean. During El Niño events, the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean warms to well above typical levels. El Niño directly affects local climate in the countries closest to the unusually warm ocean waters, but can also indirectly influence the climate of distant regions thousands of miles away. During the strongest events, El Niño can profoundly affect climate even on global scales, causing temporary planetary warming and disrupting large-scale precipitation patterns..."

Computer scientist Margaret Hamilton coined the term “software engineer.” She directed the Software Engineering Division at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab & led development of the on-board flight software for NASA’s Apollo Guidance Computer. She was born #OTD in 1936 & turns 90 today! #WomenInSTEM
Two side-by-side black-and-white photographs of pioneering computer scientist Margaret Hamilton (born August 17, 1936). The left panel features a mature, close-up portrait where Hamilton gazes directly at the viewer with a serene, confident, and reflective expression, framed by her long, dark, slightly silvering hair. The right panel is a famous archival photograph showing a younger Hamilton standing indoors next to a towering stack of bound paper binders containing the Apollo Guidance Computer source code, which she led the development of at MIT. She is smiling broadly and wears a striped, long-sleeved mini dress with dark Mary Jane shoes and glasses, resting her hand proudly on top of the massive column of printed code. The overall composition contrasts her youthful triumph with her enduring legacy, capturing an optimistic, intellectually rigorous mood that highlights her monumental contributions to space exploration.
