Yeah we’re definitely out of missiles
Trump: The U.S. has massive amounts of "munitions, especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed. Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country's history. The "leakers" of these treasonous statements are being hunted down. Long term jail sentences will be sought!

The answer to "why does everything suck now" almost ALWAYS goes back to "venture capital." Which goes back to "a lot of people have too much money and don't know what to do with it." Which goes back to: "We need to tax rich people more." It's like it's the solution to 99% of our problems!!

I've had to unfriend a few fans lately, all for the same reason. They made ridiculing, unkind, and in some cases outright cruel comments about pictures I posted of young women cosplaying Jessica.
More than a person, Jessica is a state of mind. To play Jessica, you need self -confidence, a sense of humor, and a Jessican -attitude-. There is no such thing as a Jessica cosplayer being too short, too flat chested, too heavy, too thin, too unattractive, too black, too Asian, or even too male!!! All Jessica, any Jessica, every Jessica is good Jessica.
I'm not giving any warnings or second chances. A single disparaging comment on a Jessica cosplayer, and I'm throwing you out of the rainbow colored Toontown Tent.

Astonishing how quickly voter hunger for "authenticity" got refashioned as convention. Authenticity means - I can trust you, what you say aligns with what you do, who you are today lasts till tomorrow.

Any kind of person can be "authentic" because it's not any one type, trait or way of being. It simply means you are who you appear. But, instead, "authentic" became the new way to say what consultants always have: we need a white guy folks want a beer with. Is there anything more status quo?

I'd very much appreciate it if you took a moment to read the alt text on this. www.tom-cox.com
The photo is one I took during a long coastal walk of the Daymark, a brutalist Victorian shipping tower in Devon, UK. It's old, mysterious, seems a bit like it's from outer-space, likes being near the sea, and looks like it could be a great psychedelic record cover so I think it quite sums up the writing on my website, which I wanted to invite new followers here to have a look at via the link above. There's absolutely LOADS on there, much of it readable for free, if you decide to sign up for the emails where I send it out. I deleted my Instagram account today and it's my hope that I can soon get to the stage where Bluesky is the only social media I use and everything else goes to people via my site, without idiot algorithms getting in the way. Which will ultimately give me more time to write (I hope). My suggestion is that you sign up for the free package then, if you like it, you can always support my writing by signing up for the paywalled stuff too. I've offered a choice of prices, starting at less than £2 per month, so hopefully everyone who really wants to read everything I write will be able to afford it.

I like Bluesky but what baffles me about it is the same thing that baffles me about all social media: that it badgers hardworking people to be more interested in a transient digital version of themselves than the art they've created over decades. Fuck that. I'm here to recover and get my books read.

Me to same owl handler: "Owls are super wise, right? They read loads of highbrow Russian literature and stuff, don't they?" Owl handler: "No, they actually have very tiny brains, due to the hugeness of their eyes. In reality they are one of the thickest animals you could ever meet."

Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.
The fabulous owl, Lady Jane Grey, with her handler, Pete, in Totnes, Devon, in 2016.

I have felt a MASSIVE pressure since this book came out to follow it by writing a worse, more commercial book which doesn't make people feel like Erin feels and isn't any fun for me to write. But I decided to fuck that the fuck off and write more books for me and the people who enjoy my books.

Paramount+ wanted to use the image on the left as a poster for the wrath of Khan, so they used everyone's least favorite technology to generate the rest of the image.
A close up of captain kirk getting his eyes scanned. It is cut off above the eyebrows and below his mouth. The same image in a thumbnail for Star Trek, the wrath of Khan. But AI has painted the rest of the image so that Kirk is a balding man in a business suit.

What pisses me off with LLMs is that they can't be useful 'cos they can't write down something that happened to me when I was 9 that I've suffered eternal guilt / joy / embarrassment about for 35 years and then employed shamelessly in a fictional character's life, for colour. That's what writing is.

Random thought, spurred by something I saw earlier. Y'know how 40s-50s-60s comics were huge on exposition? Characters would describe everything they're doing, explain every action. Does anyone know if this has been linked to radio show dialogue? I mean, this was how superheroes talked then, right?
