Botley Road has reopened at the railway bridge after 1,258 days. The new bridge includes cycleways on each side and enough headroom for a full-height double decker to pass. An extra rail span on the western side will give access to a forthcoming Platform 5 at Oxford station.

You really had to be there, but the sunny yet chilly cycle ride I just had from Bloomsbury to Waterloo marked the start of autumn in London. Something about the beautiful light on Waterloo Bridge, students starting to reemerge, pubs filling up. Unmistakeable.

The RNLI has said the abuse of volunteers in Portsmouth has forced it to close the lifeboat station there and stop operating since September 10. Nearby stations have been providing cover to the area instead. One of the UK's largest coastal cities without a lifeboat because of the far-right.
