It felt like the first day of autumn at Girdle Ness in a strong southerly wind. Two Great Shearwaters went through, the second lingering to feed for 20 minutes. Also, 15 Sooty Shearwaters, 42 Manx Shearwaters, 11 Arctic Skuas, 5 Great Skuas. #Birds #BirdingScotland #PatchBirding #Seabirds

September is one of, if not the best, month for visible migration watching ie vismig. The beauty of vismig is it opens doors to pick up species you wouldn't necessarily expect to see grounded on your patch. You are likely to see commoner migrants in greater number too! Good luck and happy birding!

Excellent morning loop of Clodgy Point with @lobb66.bsky.social who found this Wryneck along the drystone wall above the point - a cracking patch tick! Plenty of other common migs around including my first Tree Pipit of autumn and a flyover Yellow Wagtail! #UKBirding @patchbirding.bsky.social

A small brown bird sits in a bare twig in the centre of the frame. It has a dark eye stripe and a warm buff throat and some spots on a paler belly. The beak is pointed and grey and the short, stiff tail is grey with dark horizontal bars.
