A classic view of Knot is of huge flocks swirling over mudflats but at Girdle Ness we enjoy them in smaller numbers, often perching on shoreline rock outcrops that set off the juveniles' scalloped, peach-tinted charm. #Birds #BirdingScotland #UKWildlife

Happy to say that Dutch ringers have confirmed that the parents of this bird are both pure Caspian Gulls. Only the second site record and there are still just a handful of accepted sightings from northeast Scotland. #Birds #BirdingScotland #PatchBirding

This apparent juvenile Caspian Gull was on the south breakwater, Girdle Ness today. It was ringed as a chick in Lelystad, the Netherlands in May but we're still unclear if one of the parents was a hybrid. As such, it may only be 75% Caspian. #Birds #BirdingScotland #PatchBirding #UKWildlife

It was pleasing to see some damselflies in St Fittick's Park today with both Blue-tailed and Azure present. I've not seen either species here for several years, with the wetlands getting overgrown and polluted. Hopefully, more Odonata will appear there. #InsectWeek @britishdragonflies.bsky.social
