A juvenile Garganey swimming on still water. Garganey is a small brownish duck which looks like a miniature Mallard. The water is dappled and you can see the bird’s reflection.

At least 27 Hobbies at @rspbotmoor.bsky.social this afternoon. Outrageous! My favourite bird, so thrilling to watch. Also 3 Glossy Ibis, Cattle Egret, Bittern, Cuckoo, Shelduck, drumming Snipe and a cacophony of warblers. Never a dull visit here #ukbirding

A good morning to be out and about in Bucks. Slavonian Grebe still at College Lake (first in the county since 2021). 43 Russian Whitefronts in the fields just outside Ivinghoe, and two Marsh Harriers at Gallows Bridge. There’s also a Smew in the Herts section of Marsworth Reservoir. #ukbirding

Another superb 2wks in autumnal Cornwall. Excellent birding as always, with some modest finds - Pied Fly, Turtle Dove, Curlew Sand, plus Great & Sooty Shear from the Scillonian.
