This is a lab first... Egyptian Nightjar poop, neatly presented in cockle shells. A sprig of parsley would enhance the presentation. By the smell it's been feeding on beef casserole.

Stanford Reservoir - a Bittern this AM, 2nd record of the year. That’s 3 years on the bounce that I have had this species in August/Sept. Also, a fly through Dunlin, 4 Common Sand, 59 Shoveler, 4 Little Egret. @lrosbirds.bsky.social

A day to remember on patch at KGV. I had missed some waders mid-morning so headed up in the midday sun to see if anything was still moving. Sure enough 8 Blackwit flew through. Then, while scanning high flying gulls I was shocked to see two of them weren’t gulls at all, Arctic Skuas! #BirdingLondon

Stanford Reservoir - the ringing group have been out all week & numbers have been a lot lower than last year. Just reward today though with this Wryneck, the first since 2023. Reward for their great effort. Ferruginous Duck still, 30 Yellow Wagtail. #PWC2026

Out to Farmoor this evening where this splendid adult Turnstone dropped in for all of 10 minutes before heading off again; if it hadn't called, just once, as it arrived, we'd have missed it. How many waders come through a site like this over the course of the day and are never seen?

Stanford Reservoir - a couple more short visits to the patch yielded a female Ferruginous Duck & this smart juvenile Mediterranean Gull which looked a bit of a brute. Both grebes still present at 18.30. @lrosbirds.bsky.social

Stanford Reservoir - Shoveler with young first picked up on June 24th and then again yesterday. The first confirmed successful breeding record for the site. Scarce breeder in L&R with less than a handful of records in each of the last 5 years. Distant record shot. @lrosbirds.bsky.social

Stanford Reservoir - finished on 100 species, 116 pts at end of March #PWC2026. Late run at the end of March with Tawny Owl, Feral Pigeon, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Sand & House Martin & Swallow. April should see a decent uplift although today was dead. A few of the first quarter highlights here.
