It's all change at the Whisby Education Centre! Renovation works are underway and there are exciting plans for the indoor and outdoor spaces next year, with more areas being open to everyone. The Education Centre at Whisby Nature Park was opened 25 years ago. The renovations to the building are funded by the FCC Communities Foundation and include decarbonising our operation by replacing LPG with modern electric heating solutions, alongside improved insulation, energy-efficient lighting, new doors and windows, and upgraded flooring.Podcast host, Melvyn Prior, spoke to Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Communities Officer Sue Fysh and Education Officer Sam Reast.

Thanks to the staff, volunteers and the public who took notice of the signs - the 50th year of the shorebird sanctuary at Gibraltar Point was one of the best seasons. With an 49 little tern chicks, 56 ringed plover chicks and 14 oystercatcher chicks all hatch successfully and leave their nests.

Huge thanks to Lincoln Conservation Group for helping at our #WilderHumber saltmarsh & sand dune plant nursery on Sunday. Tasks included seed sorting & counting, and transplanting young plants into larger plug trays. The plants will eventually help restore coastal habitats around the Humber Estuary

Yesterday our #WilderHumber team completed the annual late-season sea couch cutting at Horseshoe Point, with all target plots cut and the arisings removed from the marsh. The work forms part of our ongoing couch cutting and monitoring trials, helping inform wider sea couch management.

Thank you to the staff from Ørsted who volunteered at our specialist Sea View saltmarsh and sand dunes nursery on Tuesday. They joined our #WilderHumber team and Marine Futures interns in preparing seeds for planting and monitoring and tending to those that have already germinated.

And another fantastic success story for this nature reserve, which has undergone an incredible transformation since it was bought by the Trust in 2009 as intensively farmed arable land. 📸Crane Watch volunteer Dave Coats
Two young cranes fly with their parents above Willow Tree Fen nature reserve in south Lincolnshire. 
The youngsters are getting almost as big as their parents, but don't yet have all their adult feathers, including the distinctive red and black crown, so are easy to tell apart with binoculars.

It was an early start for Gibraltar Point's Mothy Morning event on Sunday—but what a morning! Sixty-seven species were recorded with the real excitement coming near the end with a striped hawkmoth (a first for Gibraltar Point!) and a Porter’s rustic—only the second sighting at the reserve.

The first egg for the year has been laid in the Gibraltar Point shorebird sanctuary, courtesy of this lovely oystercatcher pair! There's been plenty of courtship activity and test scrapes being made by ringed plovers, so we're hoping they won't be far behind, closely followed by the little terns.

Today we join everyone in wishing Sir David Attenborough a happy 100th birthday. The man who brought the world's wildlife into our living rooms has always been a passionate advocate for local species and habitats. In Lincolnshire we enjoyed Sir David's support and presence on many notable occasions.

Exciting news from Willow Tree Fen, where two crane chicks emerged from the reeds last week. We've been keeping their arrival quiet over the bank holiday as they are very sensitive to disturbance. If you're visiting, binoculars are recommended and our amazing Crane Watch volunteers are on hand.

We had a fantastic day at our Hide & Seek family festival at Far Ings on Saturday with brilliant guided walks, wildlife spotting, pond dipping, games, crafts and simply enjoying the nature reserve.
