I think Ossoff captures something that Newsom never did: the Dem base wants you to fight but they want real shit not goofy memes and too-online riffs

I don't know that it makes him presidential material but Ossoff's ability to just be honest about how much of a pile of shit these people really are should be a model to the party.

The "unrecognized" Bedouin villages in Israel are communities, mainly in the Negev Desert, that are within the 1948 borders but which the state refuses to grant political representation or provide normal services. Many or them have been forced into planned "townships." This is textbook apartheid.

one of the funnier little discursive artifacts is that some people are so pot committed to AI never being clearly useful or helpful that they've twisted themselves into pretending that writing SQL or dealing with health insurance are these wonderful experiences no one should ever rob themselves of

it’s actually crazy that DSA has embraced YIMBY candidates in NYC, LA, and DC …but @dsasf.org is somehow still scaremongering about YIMBYs and refusing to support car free streets because it could somehow theoretically benefit a real estate developer somewhere
Segments of the American working class depend on automobiles, so the socialist answer should not be to dismiss these concerns, but to work with the communities impacted to demand safe, fast, free, reliable public transit across the West Side and the rest of the City. Similarly, fears of real estate speculotion and gentrification associated with the park conversion must be taken seriously and channeled through organizing for social housing, tenant unions, and the decoupling of land from the private speculative market.
These contradictions speak to the need for real solutions to the real problems surfaced by this proposition. Prop G sits at the intersection of the real estate development interests of the past and present contending with serious environmental consequences. Ultimately, only radical transformations like A Green New Deal that address the root causes of these contradictions can resolve these issues. Capitalists and their political representatives will only present bandaids that pit the working class against itself. In stark contrast, DSA organizes for sociolism to truly offer the Freedom to Flourish for all people.

Voters will, and I cannot stress this enough, ALWAYS say taxes are too high. This is one of the reasons you have to tell people over and over what their taxes are doing. A lot won’t listen, but when we don’t tell people what stuff costs it’s easier for ‘tAxEs ArE THeFt!’ to take hold.

This semester I taught kids about the Aztecs and how they would ritually kill people to perpetuate their society. I called it "ritual killing," not "human sacrifice," because most societies do it and the other term implies the Aztecs were somehow unusual in this. This is how *we* do ritual killing.

At some point we also have to deal with the fact that one of the two parties is openly hostile to democracy. If you have to win big every election or else the country falls into despotism we're all just playing Russian roulette every few years

I have a new piece up at The UnPopulist about searching for an "Article I candidate" in the midterms--someone who will make reasserting the power of Congress into a top issue. The closest I've found is Jon Ossoff, and I would like to point out that this part of this message gets a good response.

Vance certainly has gay acquaintances. Most obviously his mentor and most important political booster, Peter Thiel, is gay. But his mental model of Texas voters is that they are a bunch of redneck rubes, so a insinuating a straight candidate is gay will work.

Doing a pre-dawn house raid is obviously being done as thuggish intimidation and as a literally violent assault on her and her family. Overaggressive raids happen in other contexts but in this case it's going out of their way to do politically targeted state terrorism.

post from @barbarism critic from X The Everything App from October 5, 2026: "The Lula situation is pretty much what will happen if there’s a president AOC. Some tepid reforms that don’t deliver enough to the working class and we’ll swing back to an even worse Trump type in 2032. I wish reformism could work but being hemmed by the bourgeois state will always result in a swing back to fascism."

the crazy part is that if you build strong safety cultures rooted in anticipating and avoiding real-time, real-world harms, you don't often find yourself blindsided by unanticipated X risks... this isn't a zero sum choice, and safety culture hasn't emerged randomly or by accident
