This is so depressing. I remember the first time I visited this museum, I was blown away by the dioramas and there was an awesome art installation that was a room filled with seating and interactive tables and around the whole room audio of the schuylkill that changed depending on where you were

Which will be my demise: A) 100°+ Moab heat w/ wildfire smoke hanging over the quarry. B) Dino fanantics treating specimens like video game updates. C) Palaeo accts that take one sentence from a 40p paper & make it clickbait. D) B & C. It’s made you pull your hair out already. E) All the above.

Yikes! Peer review is critical for the integrity of our science, and outside experts are always needed to vet new grant proposals. By moving this all in-house at NIH, we lose scientific independence & make it easy for the government to determine what research should be funded. 🧪 #PeerReview

Imposter Syndrome & The Perfectionist Trap 🎭 More in Alt Text. #ImposterSyndrome #Perfectionism #PhDLife #AcademicWriting #Research #Productivity #WorkSmart #MindsetMatters #GradSchool #ScienceCommunication 🧪
I see so many PhD students struggling with imposter syndrome, often fuelled by perfectionism. As a self-confessed former perfectionist, I’ve learned an important lesson: the effort it takes to go from 50% to 95% “perfection” is the same as it takes to go from 95% to 99%. And that last 1%? It’s nearly impossible—because there will always be room for improvement.

The key is knowing when 99% is necessary (e.g., for a thesis or scientific paper 📑, where the content matters most) and when 95% is good enough (e.g., for a formal report 📄 that just needs to be clear and complete).

One thing, however, must always be 100% accurate: your data and results 🔬.

Letting go of that last elusive 1% can make a huge difference to how you manage your workday ⏳, day after day, and help you avoid getting hyperfixated on one thing at the expense of everything else ⚖️.
