HELP A SCIENTIST OUT. I’ve started to see these “trona frogs” popping up on social media since the Tucson Show. Some selling for 2K. I asked a page (that was selling them) if there were any research papers; they replied not yet, but said scans were done to show they’re real? Cont. 🧪⛏️⚒️🐸🧬👩🏻‍🔬🧬🧫🔬

Examples of “trona frogs” for sale and talked about on social media, but no peer reviewed journals or research come up in google search.

Snapshots from today. A variety of metamorphic rocks including schist, gneiss, metasandstone, quartz, & a TON of phyllite (a Major in the Fm). My BF didn’t want to spend 8 hours here, so I will do some investigating to see if the “Monkey Rock” outcrop is truly sedimentary! What do you think? 2/2

Metamorphic rocks at site. Many are shiny and grey with hints of orange, brown, and even blues/greens from the variety of chemical makeup.

Schists (Albites and Chlorites), Phyllites, Hornblende Gniess, Quartzites, Metasandstones, and other Granite members.

Many have severe erosion and have lost secondary minerals like garnets, muscovites, and quartz from the local creek nearby.

Flashback to this rack of ribs brought into the ANSP fossil prep lab back in 2018! They were coated in a good layer of gypsum, which required a long and tedious process of removal. But when you clean them up, the story is in the details… Theropod teeth marks were found on the ribs! Good eatin’!
