Happy #FossilFriday from the special surprise found inside the last stupid Xiphactinus that i discovered this spring: a complete Micropycnodon! This poor little guy was eaten right before the Xiphactinus (nicknamed Brown Sugar) died, and is forever trapped in fish rib jail. 🧪🐟

#fossilfriday Baking soda not just for baking and deodorizing your fridge. It can also be used to clean fossils! Air abrasion is a way to remove matrix from a fossil gently revealing a fossils hidden beauty. Here I am removing matrix from a small fragment of Triceratops skull with baking soda.

A small Elrathia kingii trilobite from Utah's Wheeler Shale. This is he most abundant trilobite species in the USA. E. kingii inhabited the boundary between dysoxic (low oxygen) and anoxic bottom waters. E. kingii fossils consistently occur in strata formed in low oxygen levels. #FossilFriday

“New” fossils for #FossilFriday: this is an impressive brontothere thoracic vert I found low in the White River Formation of Wyoming. The neural spine is so long! Brontotheres might look like rhinos 🦏 , and the are perissodactyls, but last I understood they were on the horse stem! 🐴
