I will probably work some more on it this summer, my short list: - Release full documentation on the scripting system used in the game (I started work on this 4 years ago lol) - Finish my script decompiler/compiler - Maybe start up work on my Wonder Boy In Monster World Randomizer again...

"Welcome", "Monster", "World" are represented using just 2 bytes each as they are fetched from a dictionary using an offset

A simple illustration showing a simplified view of how the Scripting System in Wonder Boy In Monster World is setup:

A sign in the game has a script pointer with a script index, that index points to an array with addresses that points to the start of the script in the ROM.

The scripts can then reference the dictionary to write longer words using only 2 bytes, which saves a lot of space.

I've been reminded of the random Wonder Boy In Monster World romhacking stuff I was working on and started looking into it again, figured out some more functions used in the scripting system and did a new graph render of all the scripts from the game! (No clue if BlueSky will actually render this)

Don't underestimate the power of a nice font. Fonts are in sight during the entire play, so make a delicious typography and you'll have great graphics even when there's nothing more on the screen. Also, they help set the mood for the game, like a lot.
