I have spent more than enough time now with Control Resonant to reconcile lingering concerns that it would detach too far from Control's DNA, in design and prose, and Remedy's creative fingerprint, to conclude that is absolutely not the case. This is a great, full, Remedy game.

Capital punishment is cowardice and permitting it is granting state authority to murder civilians. Once a person has been detained and incarcerated they, by virtue of this, no longer a threat to the public. Capital punishment cannot function without room for error, and error there will be.

All of this may be true and Geller may be a colossal piece of shit, but I take serious issue with a high impact decontextualised story being shared where the primary affected party, the victim survivor, to whom the story exclusively belongs to, has not consented to any of this.

The thing with Remedy's visual design is they avoid the obvious "yellow/white paint to show you where to go" by...still using paint-like visual cues, only contextualising them into the world. Smart use of FBC markings and environmental flags to show where you can go and what you can interact with.

Yeeaaah, looking at some vids and pics, path tracing implementation in The Witcher 3 is bad. Clashes strongly with a lot of the foliage and has broken interior lighting. Looks clumsily bolted on and poorly authored for the game's assets.

I understand that performance critique is still important and warranted, but we have got to stop doing this thing where we're shocked Path Tracing brings even the highest end GPUs to their knees. It needs to be repeated; path tracing is emergent, future technology and incredibly expensive on perf.

I cannot understate how little Intergalactic's art direction lands for me. It's not a critique, it just doesn't draw in my curiosity or connect with me in meaningful way. Not yet, at least.

Every time you do a finisher kill in Control Resonant, The Board deafeningly orgasms and it's just so fucking sick.

I might have been pretty down on it as a whole, but Silent Hill: Townfall brings the arty visual juice.

Finished Silent Hill: Townfall. Overall very disappointed. Its highs (soundtrack, visual detail and artistry, puzzles, general vibes) just aren't consistent or embedded enough to rule out the lows. The relationship it forms between the player and monsters is abysmal and killed it for me.

Tail end (I think?) of Act 4 in Silent Hill: Downfall and I'm looking forward to it being over. Easily the most disappointing game I've played this year relative to excitement given the talent attached. Totally fails to meaningfully explore its own unique ideas, and clumsily mishandles horror.

Going to bed but yeah. Silent Hill Townfall is currently my Disappointment Of The Year. There's fantastic stuff in here that propels me through, but every time I encounter a monster I want to hit a skip button. It's near unbearably boring and dull. Huge design missfire in my opinion.

I cannot understate how much of a buzzkill the stealth in Silent Hill: Townfall is for me. There's a good, moody journey in here that completely fumbles encounters to a total detriment to the experience as a whole, in my opinion.

Now, eventually, you do plan to have video game developers at your video game company, right?

I am only early in Silent Hill: Townfall and I can already tell the stealth is going to kill this game for me.

My radical opinion is that I think people that don't want to play games should spend their time doing something they actually enjoy

The benefit to prioritising Control Resonant over Silent Hill: Townfall is that the latter is UE5, meaning it's certain to have a bunch of dumbass PC quirks that'll take a week or so to iron out. UE5 HDR on PC in particular is almost universally dogshit. Lumen without hardware RT is also ass.

I've seen some takes describe Alan Wake 2's entire narrative as "up its own arse" and I really think that's such a misaligned read on the prose that it misses the entire point. The writing's total embrace of dream logic is not one built from ego but to serve a vessel for finding meaning in abstract.

Disappointed that Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall are averaging in the 80s on Open Critic. As an elite elder gamer, I only spend time with mid-high 90s games, as per their premium status as true works of art. My time is invaluable and developers need to stop being lazy and just do better.

I completely forgot Townfall was out this week. It will, unfortunately, be secondary to Control 2 for me personally, but I'm excited to see how it comes together. No Code / Screen Burn's previous work is creatively inventive, particularly how it connects with the player. Hoping to see that here.

Pragmatta isn't perfect (narrative/script need work) but it's one of those titles I can safely say I was never once bored with. It's fun. It has a creatively authentic foundation and a strong vision (warts and all), and is compellingly structured in play and presentation. Good fun. Good game.

So, RE: Control Resonant. I've had worries about Specific Things since it was announced. There's reviews from people who's taste and writing I align with, who were disappointed, and that worries me further. There's some critique out there that doesn't align with how I engage with art. So who knows?

You can be an "a-political" celebrity in how you wish to engage with the media and what you will/wont discuss, but you do not get to be "a-political" by asking others to do the same or silencing their voice. The moment you do so your silence transforms into action, with function, and is political.
