My #ClimateWeek is just about wrapped and most of my team has left NY so it was time for the customary work travel solo outing: sad girl music edition! Phoebe Bridgers at Barclays Center for a no-phones show feat. surprise mid-show appearances from boygenius bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus.

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines. When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

Friday was the hottest day *ever recorded* for Earth's oceans, on average. Oceans continue to absorb more than 90% of the excess heat from global warming: www.sfchronicle.com/climate/arti... via @sfchronicle.com

Earth’s oceans just broke a heat record. The implications will be massive
Human-caused global warming and a strong El Niño are adding excess heat to the oceans, threatening marine life and providing storms with more energy and moisture.

Fascinating chart in today's Bloomberg Green newsletter on the role of climate change in the Bordeaux wildfires. Deviations from 30-year precipitation patterns increased likelihood (summer dryness = increased threat of ignition) and power (>rainfall in the spring = >organic fuel to burn) of fires.

The narrative is that data centres support renewables growth, but renewables are not an end in themselves. Renewables don't bring decarbonisation, energy security and affordability if they are directed to support an isolated sector rather than to replace fossil fuels across our entire economy.
