My third novel, HERO COME HOME, officially has a cover! Preorderable from the usual places us.macmillan.com/books/978125...
The cover of my third novel, HERO COME HOME. Four human figures centred, the main image being that of a bearded man looking back over his shoulder (that's Oro, the protagonist), with a circle of symbols behind him. We can see a swan and a key. In the foreground are three people: two women, one with a mysterious marking? scar? who knows!? on her cheek and the other carrying a sword, flanking an older, balding man holding up a pistol. The possibly-scarred woman looks ever so slightly amused, and that is certainly very like her. Everybody else is not happy to be here, or indeed, anywhere

I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

"We grieve the worlds we've known and what it felt like to live in them, and people are part of that. We grieve the fact that someone or something that accompanied us through the world will no longer accompany us through whatever comes next." organizingmythoughts.org/grief-is-not...
“We often misunderstand something fundamental when we imagine people are simply grieving a person they believed to be wholly good.

Often, they are grieving a kind of accompaniment.

They are grieving the way someone's music, art, words, performances, or ideas helped carry them through the world ... They are grieving a bedroom they sat in twenty-five years ago, listening to the same album over and over, or a book that knocked down walls when they were nineteen. They are grieving nights spent with friends they no longer know and conversations they can barely remember. They are grieving their own proximity to death, as marked by the disappearance of someone whose presence in the world always seemed continuous with their own, until it wasn't.” - Kelly Hayes

Jennifer Nelson’s entry to this year’s Minnesota State Fair crop art
A localized version of Guernica with a loon at the center and a person holding an ICE OUT sign

“My piece was inspired by Picasso's Guernica, a work that was his response to the Nazi's bombing of the Basque town. I thought there was a fitting parallel between these incidents about the high price paid by ordinary people when aggressive regimes try out new tactics of war, as well as a fitting juxtaposition of the darkness of living such an experience and the light we shone through it in our own resistance and care for one another. The patterns near Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s mouths are actually their last words in Morse code: ‘I’m not mad at you,’ and ‘Are you okay?’”

Thank you very much to whoever it was who bought a print of my County Mayo painting "Ballycroy" #SpéirGhorm #Art Link to Print: fineartamerica.com/featured/bal...
Landscape format in acrylic on canvas. A road coming out of the centre of the bottom of the painting heads diagonally right then bends hard left and disappears into a landscape of open bog rendered as a fiery orange with sparse red and green bushes. In the distance on the left there is a small white cottage and behind it a large violet rocky mountain that tapers down to the right with more mountains further away on the right and coloured a light purple. A sliver of water is in front of them. The sky is a light aqua blue with long large white fluffy clouds. The road surface is dark, matching the violet of the jagged mountain on the left and contrasting with the surrounding bog and with its road markings of dashed white lines down the centre and dashed yellow lines marking the edge of the road. The bog has pinks and yellows peppered throughout and more colours along the road edges where there are small ridges and or ditches with touches of yellows and grey-greens. Because think about it: the vast majority of people in prisons aren't there for violent crimes. So if prisons are so bad at reforming and rehabilitating people that they do the opposite, that they turn people INTO marauding hordes, why is that an institution you're defending?

Declining to read Tillie's draft was a big red flag. The Prof was obviously not on board here. All the more reason to print the footnotes in the book. And the several scenes where the sole source WAS Cleves' book, frankly, I would have cut those scenes.

What struck me most is that TIllie sent Cleves a draft A YEAR before publication, as a courtesy (I'm told). Cleves claims in her post she was "too busy" to read it. For a year? Then the book comes out, gets press & accolades, and suddenly it's "theft." Not buying this.

And Tillie's footnotes need to be printed in the back of the book, not online. They list her source material scene by scene and completely undercut any accusation of stealing. Tillie also credits Cleves many times. Cleves insisted she didn't, which is false. This smacks of a bruised ego, frankly.
