I had the pleasure of reading this one last month so I could draw the main characters and it is absolutely delightful. Added to the October Books to Be Excited About pile.

Any of you comics folks ever been to Lucca Comics & Games? I'm realizing I might be in Italy around the same time and I'm trying to gauge whether it's going to be a nightmare of pop culture overwhelm or if I'll be able to see some amazing European comics.

It's Thursday. Would you like to buy a graphic novel containing an illustrated primer on SCURVY? Of course you would. buyolympia.com/Item/lucy-be...
A sample page from Baggywrinkles: a Lubber's Guide to Life at Sea. Lucy sits in the rigging of a tall ship, throwing her arms wide and shouting: "What ho, wrinkles and bags! Today we'll be discussing the biggest, baddest affliction in all of maritime history: scurvy!" "Gasp," cry the sailors, "scurvy?!"A sample comics page from Baggywrinkles: A Lubber's Guide to Life at Sea. In the 17th century, scurvy caused more losses in the British Navy than were suffered in all enemy action. W.J.L. Wharton said "Ever-present in each captain's mind was the dread of the terrible scourge. Every expedition suffered from it. Each hoped they would be exempt, and each in turn was reduced to impotence from its effects." "Hang on," says a sailor, "what effects?" "You really wanna know?" asks Lucy. "Okay, get ready. This ain't pretty."A sample comics page from Baggywrinkles: A Lubber's Guide to Life at Sea titled How to Scurvy. Step 1: feel woozy and sluggish. Step 2: develop achey legs. Step 3: Marvel as your gums begin to swell and bleed. Step 4: Enjoy your newfound leg lesions! (They will probably become gangrenous—lucky you!) Step 5: Beat the winter chill with a high fever. Step 6: Die. Probably from hemorrhaging in your brain!

Three doodled panels showing a little Lucy with six circles around her head looking happy, then less happy with a proliferation of circles, and finally quite miserable with a cloud of interconnected, jumbled circles pressing down on her. Below, three lines of text: overextension of the constellation, need for singular purpose, and just draw—the rest will follow.
