there's a lot of fun ideas you can work on in the "divorcing music from its historical baggage" space. A few months back I built a synth program where, instead of following a piano interface, it was based on scale intervals and translated pretty well to a qwerty keyboard.

This is something I've thought a lot about the past few days. Even if the world had one single language where a word like "intelligence" had a consistent definition, language is still just a lossy abstraction to bring structure to share their internal thoughts and feelings.

Super impressed. I was staring at a future in retail and was getting really disillusioned with my band. Just knowing that I'd end up having a loving family and a stable and enjoyable career would be really reassuring.

Thinking about "plus they'll probably have to deal with Godzilla at some point".
"Tried to watch 'Shin Godzilla" on the plane only to realize by the end of the movie that it actually a drama movie called 'Tears for you'. Words can't describe the feeling of watching an incredibly sad movie while constantly thinking: 'Damn... This is depressing. Plus, they'll probably have to deal with Godzilla at some point too...'"

What follows are four screencaps (presumably from "Tears for You"), showing a smiling woman (subtitled "I really love you."), a distant image from above of axwonsn in a white dress (subtitled"Thank you... for raising me."), a short-haired person weeping, and finally, an apprehensive woman (subtitled "living happily.")

last night a friend and I were going on and on about how nuts the timeline of modern computers is. The past few years felt like a bonkers shift, but when you look back in half decade chunks there's just always so much innovation (pos and neg) present.

this thread is dystopian as all hell and (1) helps me make sense of why there's so much pushback from reasonable people against LLM usage in software eng (2) I feel like we've made a little oasis with reasonable, careful usage of these tools (and wondering how much I/we are setting an example here)

Who are we to believe jk
“Tonight, Canada declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed earlier this week, despite the U.S. offer to Canada to receive the best treatment of any major exporter to our market,” Mr. Greer said on a virtual briefing with the press.

“New demands and walk backs of other commitments by Canada have upended the careful balance reached in the past days,” Mr. Greer added.

Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada said in a statement that it had been the American side that introduced last-minute terms that were “unfair, uneconomic, and called into question the reliability of any deal.”

I watched a Bismuth video earlier this week and it had me feeling pretty nostalgic about speedrunning. And yet that period from 10-15 years ago may as well have been 50. I would have nowhere the patience for it at this point.
